Osteoarthritis: Let's connect and support each other
Hello. I've been told I have osteoarthritis in my hands and hip -- very painful. So far, I'm taking only Tylenol or Advil limitedly, and using Voltaren Gel which helps a little. Does anyone else have this and if so, how are you being treated. Thanks!

So sorry you are suffering with this too. I use a warming thick lotion named Castiva Capsaticin on my knee and shoulders. At one time a Dr. Gott wrote a newspaper column and answered people’s questions It was excellent He received many people’s recommendations of Castiva. I wear rubber gloves when I use it as the package directs. It doesn’t have strong odor as many of the arthritis remedies do. I only use it before I go to bed and probably would not use on my hands for fear of inadvertently touching my eyes or some others sensitive part of the body. It can be ordered online.
Hello @suez, I'd like to invite @maryclaire651, @lioness, @chincoteague, @jonr, @bonnieh218, and @collielady who have discussed some sort of arthritis in their hands and may be able to share some tips on what they did to cope with the pain and functionality. I'd also like to invite @richman54660, @catmom777, and @hazelnut who have discussed arthritis in their hip as well.
@suez, if you are comfortable sharing, how severe is the arthritis you are dealing with? Are you in the early stages and hoping to find ways to cope for long-term or are you facing potential surgery or another type of treatment?
@suez Id like to also welcome you to connect we are a caring group. I have osteoarthritis in my hands it is getting worse now . When I first wake up my hands are stiff and of course painful. I soak them in warm water for a while which brings the blood to the service ,then I use EMU salve rub it in till it disappears this really helps use it according to there instructions , twice a day for 2 weeks then as needed . I also take my pain medicine when needed . But the hot water really helps .
I had a lot of pain relief using hydrolized collagen or just plain gelatin...I try to get 24 grams of collagen a day and I've been using Great Lakes collagen or just gelatin from Knox or generic Walmart brand...I put it in my morning smoothies or coffee...research suggests that taking it at night has better results but I take it when I can...I do take supplements that encourage joint repair but I think the collagen/gelatin was the major pain reliever... https://youtu.be/VfR1s3H3Gko hope this link works...if not search 'hydrolyzed collagen treating arthritis pain' on youtube.com...HTH
I also take 1 teaspoon of curcumin a day that acts as an anti-inflammatory...I'm sure it helps also...
I take ginger tea (made from ginger roots - not the tea bags) every day for inflammation.
Thanks!
Thank you.
I've never heard of EMU salve. Thank you
Thank you. I'm a little leary of "hot" creams or lotions. My skin seems to be extra sensitive.
