Please help

Posted by mylaptop123 @mylaptop123, Sep 17, 2019

I have been feeling very disturbed since I met my new physician last evening. I was there to just consult whether I had to continue my thyroid medication which I started a month ago. My TSH was 15 on August and after medication it was 7 yesterday. I mentioned about sudden palpitations which lasted for 3 days last month.

The physician told me that it might be due to stress about which I agree as well. The most important thing is when I asked him about if I need to concerned about my heart. He placed stethoscope on my upper left side few inches below clavicle, then placed stethoscope directly on both nipples of my breast one by one. This made me very very uncomfortable. I had visited cardiologist last month but the cardiologist never kept his stethoscope at my nipples.
I feel like I should report him. So, I want to know if it is necessary to keep stethoscope directly nipples of both breasts of a female.

Please let me know. I am unable to sleep as I felt abused.

I would seriously consider filing charges against that doctor for sexual assault. Below is the definition for California, you can look up the definition for your state.

If I was you I’d be seeing an attorney. He MUST be made aware he can’t treat women like he did. He shouldn’t be allowed to get away with it.
Go get him,

I’d get your medical records for that visit also. Preferably let your attorney get them. Don’t talk to him or the hospital. Let the attorney do it.

@lioness- Good for you! More professionals need to step up to the plate and ensure that patients are treated well. I also turned one in when she made it plane that I was a pest asking to go to the toilet so often after surgery. IV's really do a job on me!

@contentandwell My Dr. is sending me to a Orthopedic spine surgeon . I haven't gotten the referral yet . I know I'm not letting him talk me into surgery but will see what else he may say . Next week I am going to my pain Dr. to see what my upper spine xray showed I hope its just arthritis that is hurting me.

Hi
I had surgery today and asked 4 nurses about your situation, one said “Absolutely not” another said “Definitely not” one said “Never” the other said “I’ve never heard of that before.”
When the nurse asked me to take off all my clothes today, I started to unbutton my shirt and she said “Wait until I go on the other side of the curtain.” She asked me a bunch of questions and eventually asked if she could come in. There is a string coming out my penis and the two nurses who checked it asked permission first and told me why they needed to check it. Very professional.
Have you thought about reporting the incident to the police. I hope you do.

Your post led to many interesting replies. It’s easy for me to say to you: “ if a procedure makes you uncomfortable why not say STOP !” When a HB says something after an incident happens it almost immediately divides sides. Is it the fact that it was a doctor who did this that is most upsetting? Am I truly from another planet to think that we have a right and perhaps even an obligation to say stop, what are you doing and why “ do you have the stethoscope on my nipples “? Would there be or could there be some reason that might make it okay?
I can feel some females getting angry with me for posting this question or for asking.
I think if you stop him immediately he would need to explain. And if he is a trustworthy professional he would explain why and say: “ I’m sorry if this made you uncomfortable but it is the only way to ... x,y,z and if you want a female nurse present we can do that because I think it is necessary. Or if you want me to stop completely I’d like to enter into your records everything that just happened so there is no doubt that we talked about it and I recommend it or see another doctor. I’m sorry if this upset you and made you uncomfortable “
I’ve had make and female doctors touch me and see me in states of undress and in positions that no one else ever has. I’ve never considered after the fact if what they did was acceptable.
I would never say or try to convince you that what you felt at the time or afterwards is unreal or unreasonable. I’m just saying that going so far as reporting an incident may result in consequences that could have been avoided. If I’m way off base now please tell me why.
Thanks

@lioness Linda, I will be looking forward to hearing what the spine surgeon and the pain specialist say.

My brother-in-law did have surgery two years ago for spinal stenosis and it was hugely helpful. He and my sister did some research and found a great surgeon. I don’t believe that is really major surgery, he was inpatient for two nights, and despite being very apprehensive beforehand he is so happy that he did it. Surgery is always scary though, I wasn’t even sure I wanted a liver transplant! If surgery is recommended I know that you, having been a nurse, will do all you can to make sure that you make the best decision and have the best possible doctor.

@merpreb @contentandwell Thanks for you sweetness and caring. I do take pain meds and use a Tens unit as I get muscles spasms. I was given this opportunity in 05 with my other fracture after research and talking over with different nurses I declined then and as I found out just recently one lady had a piece of cement break off. I am not in favor of it again. My daughter in law said no also . Seen to many failures in back surgery. I'm glad you brother in laws was successful . I'm seeing my pain Dr. also so will get a lot of info from both the Ortho guy and him There might be a good back brace he would recommend or injections . I,ll let you,ll know what happens. Have a good day mine is just starting. 8:30 here

@lioness I just hate to think that you’re having so much pain. And you’re always cheerful and so helpful to everyone! I certainly hope that those who live near you are helping you—it’s your turn! Let us know how the doctor visits go.
