Posted by abopp2022 @abopp2022, Sep 3, 2019

I'm 19 and my gynecologist thinks i might have Ovarian Cysts. Last time i went, it hurt so bad. And I bled for a while. I don't have a period and I'm on Depo Provera, and never had sex. Is there anything to do so it wont hurt so much????????? I'm going 9/3/19 in the afternoon. Please, ladies I know i have to get used to this but I dont handle pain down there very well. I know I need to figure out whats going on but im scared.

Hi @abopp2022, I can imagine that you're scared. But it is also important to get checked out. Here's more information about ovarian cysts from Mayo Clinic https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/ovarian-cysts/diagnosis-treatment/drc-20353411 If you scroll down to the bottom of the page, you will find some things you can do to prepare for your appointment and a list of questions to ask your doctor. I suggest putting your fear into action and put your focus into getting things ready for your upcoming appointment today. This will help you focus and put the control back into your hands rather than letting fear take hold.

Abopp, I noticed that you posted your message in the Gynecologic Cancers group. I moved it to Women's Health group as well. Keep in mind that ovarian cysts are not usually cancerous. I'm inviting @shanamarie22 @lindajean @cnesselroad to join this discussion to share their experiences with ovarian cysts.

Be sure to let the gynecologist know that you're concerned about the pain and discomfort of the examination and testing. Let her know what will help you feel more at ease. For me, I like to know exactly what they are going to do and how long it will take. I ask my doctor or the technician to talk out loud every step they are doing. Might that help you? Might I ask why you are taking Depo Provera?

@abopp2022- I don't blame you for feeling frightened where pain is involved. Can you speak to the nurse beforehand to learn how to relax your vaginal area?
I like everything described to me, every step of the way. I do not like surprises, unless they are gifts!
I had a cyst, or cysts and after having it removed it was like the world opened up- I was pain free! Delaying any treatment could be more frightening if it gets worse. Being open and honest with your doctor is the best way to get the best care possible. And that's what we want! Do you think that you can be open with your doctor?

It’s a man doctor. I tried to get a girl but she was booked and my grandma said to get it checked as soon as possible. I don’t trust men. I was assaulted in 2016 and since then I changed all my doctors to ladies. Idk if I can talk to him but I know I can talk to the nurses.
