Feeling at my wits end with Chronic Pain and Fibromyalgia
Usually I am not one to share much of my personal story but here goes...I have what is called moderate to severe degenerative disc disease, arthritis of the spine C3-C7 and lumbar spine, and Fibromyalgia. In the 20 years Ive had pain, I"ve been though many treatments including PT, tens unit, bio feedback, injections, nerve ablations, you name it. I'm prescribed Cymbalta 60 mg for Fibro and anxiety as well as 225 mg of Lyrica. I have been on and off various painkillers too. I'm currently on a long acting oxycodone of 13.5 mg and once a day one 15 mg of IR oxycodone. This has been my regime for a few months now as I switched from 15 mg IR oxycodone. Now for those who are worried about me ODing...I understand. I actually hype-vigilant about my meds. (And I have my hubby and son who watch) Years ago I was on 15 mg Fentanyl patch for 10 months and came off it in one month with no side effects.
Right now I'm really struggling with this rotten pain. I have no appetite, either can't sleep or nap during the day.

@summertime4 I am 77 now with fibromyalgia , 2 fractures in back, neuropathy , osteoarthritis I have been on Tramadol since 05 without any issues it is the only thing that helps with the pain when severe otherwise I take a liquid Advil. Dr. has me on Gabapentin for neuropathy Meloxican for arthritis I was on Percocet but it did nothing for me . I hope you find something that helps you. It is a trial and error for a lot of things fibro especially. For the burning nerves in thighs I just apply a cool washcloth that helps or ice for awhile.
@lioness Thank you for your feed back. I guess I am not on alot of meds considering. For neuropathy is gabapentin, elavil and percocet. Depression is effexor and lexapro and lasix for fluid. I now need to wrap my head around and try to get straight. My husband died Jan. 7, 2018 and since then I have fell apart physically and mentally. I saw the breast surgeon yesterday to get a plan in place to hit this breast cancer. I really like the doctor and will have surgery on Jan. 8, 2020. Wow, 2020 is just up the road. She told me that newly diagnosed breast cancer in women is like 70% after the loss of their spouse. Grief, stress, anxiety greatly increases cancer risks. She said she was planning on doing a paper on that very subject. Interesting for sure.
Hi friends, I have read your posts and am grateful for your experiences.
It's been a rough go of it but I believe I'm finally making headway with pain relief. At the beginning of October I started on medical marijuana, MMJ. The way FL dispenses, oil/tincture, capsules, vaping and traditional smoking are the main way to take it. I like the tincture the best- not a fan of smoking/vaping. I'm sleeping better and the fibro pain is less. The pain management doc I go to has me using the MMJ in addition to opioids. One downfall of the MMJ and me having had gastric bypass in 2007 is that I have NO appetite. My husband bought me some protein shakes to sip on when I developed edema in my ankles and feet which is a sign of protein deficiency.
So if my anxiety wasn't high enough, my in-laws are coming for Christmas, as are my daughter and son in law.I decided that instead of worrying how I'll get things done, I've already asked for help from everyone including my mother in law.
May you all have a peaceful holiday season filled with joy and love.
So happy for you Jen thatyou are finally are getting at least a little more relief! The holidays are tough but at least you had the "courage" to let others know you need their help right now!
I am use to being at home and doing my own things on holidays. I am content with that but I do miss family at times. This way everyone can have the peace they wish for!! Have a great Christmas & Happy & healthy New Year!
@summertime4 I'm sorry for your loss. My husband passed away in 2000 on 22 of this month. The first year is the worse with all the holidays but it will get better every year you,ll never forget but it will start to get more tolerable . A lot of meds interact with each other have you checked with your Dr. or pharmacist? I use a website Drugs .com everytime the Dr adds another med to see about interactions . One thing that helped me was exercise meditation and just music to listen to . How are you doing . Good luck with your surgery I will keep you in my prayers for the 8th. Hard to believer we are starting another decade .
Just read your post Jim Weissler-----what a tremendous inspiration you are!! What you have been through is unbelievable! Next time I feel pain and want to complain, I will think of you and realize I have nothing much to complain about! Sending you peace, better health, Hugs!
@summertime4 I used to feel ashamed of taking pain meds. Then a doctor said to me” if you are not shamed of taking a blood pressure med to help your health, don’t be ashamed of taking oxycodone for pain. It all helps when used properly “ Five years ago I was on Fentanyl patch. I could have gone back to it two years ago but then I’d be maxed on meds. We do what we have to do! I hope today is a better day for all of us.
My sweet son brought these lovely flowers home for me so I had to share! @rwinney I so understand the dilemma , what if you made the wrong choice and feel worse is how I feel.
Here’s to a lovely day!
I am so confused -----last night I wanted to log on to post and I could find no way to get on site. I am not sure where I belong! I typed in Mayo clinic connect and I could find no site at all. It took me to some back page and I typed in search and they said no for chronic page, no for pusental neuralgia,no for neuropathy! They said I was not a registered member, I had not filled out profile and I did the day I joined Dec.4th----I could not log in anywhere. I finally found "help" and they took all this information and said they would get back to me.I am only on here now because I got mail from this site and it brought me here! Please explain what I am doing wrong?
@trishj46 I am tagging @ethanmcconkey as he is one of our resident techy gurus, to see if he can assist you in the dilemma! Don't look to me to fix the situation, I am techno-geekless and would probably mess it up further! I hope that your issue gets fixed soon. Thank you for reaching out to let s know!
