Do I have Pancreatitis?

Posted by harper7745 @harper7745, Jul 27, 2019

Have had CT abdomen, it showed possible mild pancreatitis. MRI showed possible mild pancreatitis, EUS showed chronic pancreatitis. Amylase 34. Lipase 104, 149 and 69. No symptoms of pancreatitis. Have pancreatic divisium and been on Omneprazole for 16 years. Do I have pancretitis.?

But if your pancreatic enzymes are elevated it will show in your blood work not a MRI or CT. I've had pancreatitis attacks where my lipase is through the roof and my CT scan appears normal. A MRI or other scan cannot measure your lipase or amylase.

My Lipase x3 was 109, 149 and then 69. My amylase was good. My CT showed acute pancreatitis and MRI showed acute pancreatitis. My EUS showed head of pancreas enlarged. Biopsy taken and came back no cancer, benign background with atypical cells which doc wasn't worried about. They classified me as chronic pancreatitis. I find it hard to believe as I don't have any symptoms of it.

He’s leaning towards me having Congenital Sucrase-Isomaltase Deficiency (CSID) . its a rare disorder that affects a person's ability to digest certain sugars due to absent or low levels of two digestive enzymes, sucrase and isomaltase. Sucrase and isomaltase are involved in the digestion of sugar and starch. Seems a little Far-fetched to me . Considering I’ve never had issues before . But then again I guess things can happen and change . But I will ask him about other tests and suggest other things . I’m a veterinarian technician for 8 years now and I’ve done and seen a lot of things . This would never happen in vet medicine , would not take this long to figure out what is wrong . If an animal came into my clinic with my like symptoms, we would lead towards liver or pancreatic issues .

Does sound strange, but maybe your body has changed. I agree with you. With all of your symptoms, I would have said pancreas or liver issues. Good luck and keep me posted.

Went to specialist Aug. 1st. He put me on steroids for 2 weeks and wants a repeat MRI in 3 weeks. He said I have pancreatitis but not sure why. Don't drink enough alcohol. Possibly pancreas divisium, genetics, auto immune, or being on Omenprazole for 16 years?
I will keep you posted!

Hello @harper7745, I'm glad that you posted about your Aug. 1st appointment. It sounds like your diagnosis of pancreatitis is still somewhat of a mystery. I hope that you get a good report after your next MRI. I look forward to hearing about the results.

In the meantime, I saw an article about pancreas divisum which you mentioned in your post. I did find this on the pancreas foundation website. You might look at this article as well as other information provided on the pancreas foundation website.

Will you post again after your next MRI?

Thank you for your website on pancreas divisium. I will keep you posted after the next MRI. I am worried right now about becoming a diabetic if indeed it's pancreatitis. My doctor doesn't want to do any blood sugar testing right now? My last blood sugar the end of March was 99 fasting and 124 non fasting, so as of then I was o.k.

Hello @harper7745,

I am glad that your current blood sugar numbers are normal, but I can certainly understand your concern about diabetes given that you have a problem with your pancreatitis. After your next MRI, you might consider a consultation with an endocrinologist. These doctors specialize in diabetes and other hormone-related problems. They are generally brilliant people. I think of them as the IT doctors of the body.

No abdominal or back pain. Stools are yellow and tan. Do not float. Losing weight. CT and MRI showed mild pancreatitis. Lipase and Amylase normal. No other signs. Don't have a gallbladder.

Thank you. Hoping I won't end up with diabetes, but if I do I will consult an endocrinologist.
