Mouth Taping

I saw an article on the news Buteyko: Why Indonesia singer Andien sleeps with tape on her mouth, Apparently this is to help you breathe in through your nose rather than your mouth . Isnt this kinda dangerous

Hi, @lotsofpain - that is an interesting concept of sleeping with tape on one's mouth to breathe through the nose rather than the mouth. I'd like to bring in some other members who have talked about various sleep issues to weigh in on this idea, like @johnbishop @paulalina @sandytoes14 @johnhans @thankful.

lotsofpain - is this a strategy you are considering for yourself?

Yes it could be. Please get a doctor's opinion on this. I have a deviated septum which makes it hard to breathe through my nose, thus that would not be good for me. Those without a deviated septum and using a CPAP machine might want to use a chin strap to keep their mouth shut. CPAP is used to treat sleep apnea, a condition that can be deadly. Otherwise I would not know what the reason would be to stop breathing through the mouth.

@lotsofpain- I agree with @johnhans with this and discuss this with a sleep Dr. Although I don't have a deviated septum, I am a mouth breather.
Generally the solution here is to go with a full face mask, but I've tried this on several occasions and between high mask leak and not enjoying "skin diving" while I sleep I choose to wear a chin strap with a nasal mask. Most nights I sleep like a baby! Happy Zzz's Jim @thankful

@lotsofpain -- I agree with others that mentioned to discuss it with your sleep doctor. I have a deviated septum so it would be a really bad experience for me if I tried to tape over my mouth while sleeping. I try to breath through my nose but sometimes it's just not enough. That said, I did find information that offers some reasons why it might work. Maybe this is the website you were referring to?
