Have you used alternative dosages for Tymlos or Forteo?
Hi everyone: I’m in my fourth month of Tymlos injections. I’ve noticed from time to time that people mentioned using a variation of the usual dosage of Tymlos or Forteo. For example, instead of one full injection every night, they were injecting every other night, or they were using a reduced amount of the medication in each injection. If you have used an alternative dosage, 1) what was it, 2) why did your doctor suggest it, and 3) how has it worked for you? Thanks!

@cireland I notice that folks mention taking this medication in the evening. Is that better than morning. Thanks for posting. Chris
Spine bone density increased 11%. T score went from-3.9 to -2.8. Femoral neck bone density increased 7%. T score went from -2.6 to -2.0. After forteo, I was on reclast for several years until my doctor recommended Prolia several years ago. It took almost 19byears for the bone density in my spine to increase by 16% and my T score to go from -3.7 to -2.3. I was diagnosed with severe osteoporosis at the age of 41. Now, at the age of 60, I hope that these treatments will prevent me from having the spine and hip fractures that my mother had in her 80's.
I give myself a shot of Tymlos last thing before I go to bed.
yes, i inject in the evening also -- that way, the side effects don't interfere with starting my day.
@cireland, @laurapearl, thank you so much for responding. So...you two prefer the evening and for legitimate reasons. I started with mornings because I am not super great about remembering to take nighttime meds. I set the morning meds out so I don't miss them and I just add the injection to my routine. Now I wonder if I shouldn't try evenings. How do you change from morning to evening? It is great to have your assistance. Thank you and have a peaceful sleep tonight. Chris
I don't know if there is a rule about this, but when I have switched the timing of a med, I insert an intermediate step -- i.e., if today, i did a normal morning injection, tomorrow I would do a 2 pm injection, followed by a nighttime injection the next day (and then onward).
I started Tymlos four months ago. Having lots of itching, especially during the night. In addition I have had significant abdominal bloating. Has anyone else experienced these side effects?
Greetings @lynncee and welcome to. Connect. Osteoporosis is a very busy area with lots of different posts, postures, and experiences. To start, I want to let you know that I completed two years on Tymlos with no side effects. My osteoporosis returned to being osteopenia in some areas and held its own in other areas.
One of the advantages of Tymlos is that you don't have to refrigerate it and you can titrate up by using the clicker on the pen.
Here is how you can find posts about Tymlos or osteoporosis issues. In the search bar at the top of this page.......enter "Tymlos" with the quotes. You will be taken to a quite long list of experiences and comments from other members.
Let me know if you run into a hurdle and need help. I also would like to address your itching. I have a neuropathic itch that just attacks me. It is a frequent battle with ER visits and panic attacks. My dermatologist brought back a new product from an international dermatology conference. It is called Dermeleve. You can find out more about it at http://www.dermeleve.com. It does not contain any steroids and works quite well. You will feel it take effect within minutes and then have itch relief for about 6 hours. Not an eliminator but it may make your nights better for sleeping. And at this point you do not need an Rx.....just order it on the website.
What are you currently using for your "itch".
May you be free of suffering and the causes of suffering.
Chris
@artscaping I'm new to this group. My DXA scan last week indicated my T-score was -3.7 in lumbar spine and -3.1 in the proximal femur. Not good. Haven't started treatment and my GP referred me to endo as she's not sure of how to advise on most appropriate medication.. Thinking of Tymlos. May I ask which areas you had gains in? I also am living with lymphocytic colitis which does not help matters any with its resultant weight loss and the malabsorption issues. Thank you in advance.
Thank you so much from your prompt response and information. I will definitely follow up with the information you sent. Our dermatologist gave me a sample of CereVe Itch Relief. Glad to hear you are doing well. Did you need to follow up with another course of treatment after Tymlos?
