@contentandwell Hey, when did you sneak in and take pictures of my arms? My dad had these, I do, also. Dr's have told me it's because of taking aspirin low dose or vitamin E, genetics, being fair skinned, compromised immune system. Most likely a combination of all of them! I get these marks and don't even recall a brush against something.wear sunscreen. Arnica, as @lioness commented, is great for bruises. It is homeopathic, and does take a bit of time to work. I just figure these are badges for living, and don't worry too much what others think of them ;))
Ginger
@contentandwell Those look like my arms along with my brown spots I wonder if it just comes with our maturity
Did the Tretinoin work for you? I was using it for a while, and my bruising improved, but then it stopped working. I am using DermEnd also, but it doesn’t seem to help. But thanks for the tip about using Dermablend, I may have to try it.
Thanks for sharing your photos. I have the same spots on forearm, diagnosed as senile purpura, but oddly, they only began to appear several months after my first Covid Vaccine. I never had them before. I don’t believe it’s a coincidence because after first booster they appeared the next day, mostly on left forearm where I received the dose, but also sometimes on the right. I have tried to research the connection, but haven’t found anything similar. They most often appear unrelated to physical activity, but I also notice now if I scrape my arm even slightly against a surface, they immediately appear. Sometimes large patches, other times tiny, multiple dots. No pain or itchiness. I had no other side effects from the shots. I have asthma and take inhaled steroids so wonder if the combination set it off. I would be grateful to learn if anyone else has experienced or heard of this reaction. (I did fill out the “adverse reaction” paperwork for Pfizer, but had no response.) I am not against vaccine and grateful for it as I live with an elder parent, who is vulnerable, and need to protect her as much as possible. Thank you.
Your bruises look a lot like mine, I just found out last week that I have senile purpura and can’t lay out in the sun anymore. This is very disappointing to me since we moved from Chicago to the corn country in Illinois and there isn’t much to do but lay on my nice deck and soak up the sun….. my arms are a mess from all the bruising. I can’t rush around the house and bump into something or here comes some more bruises. My sons dog picked up his paw to ask for some petting and I immediately had a nice long bruise on my leg. Than all you people for being here so I don’t feel so alone. I will try to add a photo but am not sure how to do it.
I get those also on my hands and especially my left forearm. I am right handed and don’t know why I get them mostly on the left side. I think it’s because my left arm is more exposed to the sun ( over the years while driving , I am now 76). My doctor says it’s purport and my skin is thinner as I age. He told me not to worry. Haha! I use cream for crepy skin but don’t like to put creams on in warm weather. I’m going to look into the arnica
i have them and so did my father
I have similar looking purpura on my forearms and lower legs as shown in your photos. In your experience, does this purport go away with time if protected ?
Dermablend works but takes a long time to do. They have updated their language from senile to solar. I felt it insulting also. I have had to change my ID to my email. It has Bobbie in it.
Hi ellerbracke,
I do know what purpura is as several friends and relatives have that condition, some worse than others. I don’t and I remember my mom never did either.....dad had a couple minor ones. Wonder if genetics plays a role. I get a regular bruise only when I bump into something but it fades eventually. I don’t take medications and wonder if that helps.
But thanks for the pictures and information. There are people who call them old age spots and say to stay out of the sun and everyone gets them. We know that’s not true and your information is educational which is what is so great about this site. I love it when people research and get informed about what’s going on with them...I don’t take too much at face value...gotta know why and would rather hear about any conditions or maladies from people with an informed personal experience.
Could it be any hotter in Florida? The answer is yes...ugh.
