I realize this discussion is about Chlaymydia but pay attention to Chrisboxsa who had a helpful idea about now treating the candida that often is the result of taking antibiotics. Candida, yeast, symptoms often parallel Chlamydia symptoms as they both cause burning, swelling and itching. I had multiple surgery's which required massive does of antibiotics and I ended up with chronic candida in my privates. I did take the prescription anti-yeast meds, only to improve and then a month later get slammed again. My good bacteria had been killed off in my intestines allowing the yeast to flourish. I did eat probiotic yogurt but that didn't help.
It has been stated by some that they don't have access to px meds, but I have a permanent natural solution to eliminate the yeast. No doctors visit and it won't hurt you to try this. Kill it off- starve it to death. It is residing in your intestines and has specific foods it wants- mainly sugar, sugar, sugar and carbs. After a doctor recommended a yeast detox and I had been reading about anti-yeast/anti-inflammation diets I found a simply one to follow, William Crook, MD, The Yeast Connection Handbook. Crook was a pioneer in believing diet was a permanent solution. No money in his plan for the expensive prescription industry. True taking a pill is easier yet it wasn't permanent for me. I liked his plan because it was uncomplicated and he had simple hand drawn diagrams of how the detox worked, showing how our yeast was sending messages to our brain for a sugar fix. Moonshine maker's have known they can make their brews with yeast and lots of fruit, the fruit sugars feed the yeast. They make a mash of the fruits, basically rotten fruit, just what is in your intestines and yeast is happy, happy. I followed the plan exactly, a 2 month detox to kill of the yeast by starving it to death (basically zero sugar- both natural and processed and limited high carb veggies like potatoes and beans, limited whole grains, but amaranth, buckwheat and quinoa ok. I also ate small amounts of rice. I ate and do eat lots of meat, poultry, fish, eggs and safe nuts (p-nuts and pistachios are often contaminated with mold so avoid. Lots of low carb veggies.
This is harder than I imagined. Your starving yeast is sending constant messages to your brain for a sugar fix. You look a something sweet and your mouth will flood with saliva. It doesn't want a crisp raw veggie snack or even delicious walnuts- it wants sugar. As I mentioned it took 6 weeks of this to stop, just about the time my burning and itching and redness stopped. Yet must go at least 2 months for total kill out.
Yes you can take px meds while doing this to speed up recovery. Simply taking px meds is not a permanent solution for those of us that harbor resistant yeast- we can't just weaken it- it must be killed. I stuck to the detox for 2 1/2 months and now have followed maintenance plan for 5 months. Results motivated to stay on this plan, yet weight will naturally be lost and find I need to eat more of the good foods as I am down from 135 to below 125 and am 5'7". That weight level looked good in my 20's but at my age, 70, below that one starts looking frail. Walnuts and Almonds are good high calorie snacks. Once the yeast is killed off the sugar cravings do go away.
