Neurectomy

Hi All-
I'm new to the Group. Has anyone had an illioinguinal/illiohypogastric neurectomy and/or intercoastal/subcoastal neurectomy? What were your experiences before and during recovery? I recently had illioinguinal/illiohypogastric neurectomy and would love to know others experiences. There's very little patient info I can find. Most is generalized statistics in medical journals.

Hello @sica, welcome to Connect. Would you mind sharing a bit more about this surgery? Is a neurectomy similar to a nerve block, but removing part of the nerve itself? If you are comfortable, what led to your needing your neurectomy?

REPLY

Yes, a neurectomy is removal of a nerve, usually for pain relief purposes.

I was not aware that any nerve could be removed. I have lived with severe neuropathy as well as severe sciatica in my right leg for over 35 years yet I had not heard about this process. I had a spinal fusion in 1994 that failed within 10-12 years which has left me in severe pain. Time for me to research this further to see if it could possibly work for me or for my daughter. Our daughter has suffered from Chronic Regional Pain Syndrome for the past 15 years and nothing has helped with her pain issues. She is reluctant to take meds as she is 14 weeks pregnant.

Thank you for your comment on my GI problem.. Ironically I had a spinal fusion in 1995 while in Oklahoma City, they spine surgery was because of an injury ... The vertebrae was pushed out if the stack by about 1/3rd..they pulled it back in place using plates an screws that were left in.. bone from hip was use to make it solid...and it still is working very well.. no lower back pain like so many of my age (82) have...
