Does anyone find that a type of shoe helps your foot neuropathy?

I wear HOKA running shoes. They have many different styles but I like the soft cushion ones. My feet need comfort to try and stay busy and distracted all day from the electricity in my feet.

@lororenee1 The Spenco shoes were delivered yesterday. I ordered the same size that I wear in Birks. The shoes are nice looking but they are too tight on my feet and the foot bed is too hard. They are tighter and harder on my feet than my Birks. I don't know if I'll ever be able to wear anything but Birks since I've worn them for so long. I'll be sending the Spencos back. I am really gun shy for trying any shoes. Nothing works with my painful feet. Thanks for recommending this brand, but I can tell even a larger size won't work. I think I'll just have to have painful feet and accept the fact that they are going to hurt. I don't know what else to try. But I may just stop looking---too much time. I need to get to a store so that I could try on without having to order and wait and then have them not work.
I appreciate you taking the time to recommend; I wish they had been just what I needed.

Hi Carol, Awwww, I feel so bad they do not work for you. What is strange, is that they are usually true to size. I am a nine and a half, and I even sized down. And I own many pairs. Very strange. As far as a hard foot bed; yes, they have a rather hard foot bed. I did not like that at first but now I love that. I feel well supported. At first I felt it was too much. But the biggest thing is that I tend not to get the odd neuropathic sensations in the shoe, like the feeling like my socks are bunched up in the shoe, or I am walking on pebbles, etc . Don't give up, Carol!!!! There is a shoe that will help your feet. You have to find it. You have to find a way to get more comfortable, or you will disable yourself more. So the quest is on. Go searching for something!!!! So sorry they did not work!!! Lori Renee

I have narrow size 9.5 -10 feet .which need a wide toebox and support in the metatarsal area. My second toe is longer than my big toe also so most ladies socks don't cut it for length and comfort. Any suggestions would be appreciated. ☺

@lorirenee1 I think the Spenco shoes are true to size. I've just worn Birks for so long that I guess my feet have flattened out and regular shoes don't work. Birks have the support, but the hardness is what bothers my feet. If they were a little softer. I put a gel insert in my Birks to see if that would help, but it didn't so I think I'm just stuck with painful feet and all my collection of Birks. It's just one of those things to deal with at my age and Diabetes.
Thanks for suggesting and helping me try to find something that might work. I guess I'm just a Birkenstock gal..

Carol, I just cringe at the thought of you giving up on your feet. It just saddens me terribly. For some odd reason, I cannot wear my Birkenstocks as comfortably since my neuropathy. I still wear them, but find I have to take them off after a few hours, and change shoes. I wore nothing but Birkenstocks, I swear, for easily 20 years. I adored them. I still think there is nothing better for feet. But please. Do not give up on your feet. Find a place by your house specializing in troubled feet. Don't give up. Maybe there is help. No shoe is really good for me anymore. But some are way better than others. Regards and best wishes. Keep in touch....

@lorirenee1 I'm not going to give up. I'll try some other brands that several people have mentioned. I just have to order on line, get them, and then have to send them back. We live in the middle of nowhere, so it's not a quick trip to the post office or UPS store. I'll continue the on line search and if something looks as if it will work, I'll give it a try. With hot weather just around the corner, my Birks have always been perfect. I keep thinking this pain in my feet will go away. I didn't have it, and then woke up one morning and there it was. Maybe it will go away as fast as it came. Wouldn't that be a miracle?

I've been following.. I buy so many online , with free shipping, and send back because they don't feel good. I have planters fasciitis also which makes it extremely hard. Sometimes I don't want anything touching my feet, but yet I need the cushion that comes in good athletic shoes. I also need a roomy toebox. I'm thinking I won't wear nothing but sandals for now, but who knows. I do have spenco, and some clarks. I have a pair of danko ordered. Has anyone tried therafit shoes??

@peggyn, and everyone else with finding comfortable shoes!! The Therafit shoes look pretty nice but it doesn’t look like they would be wide enough for the toe box on me. Carol, the therafit clogs and sandals look like a possibility and I think you said you don’t have a wide foot. But, they definitely aren’t cheap! Good luck to everyone!!
