Does anyone find that a type of shoe helps your foot neuropathy?

@lorirenee1 Husband is maybe a little better----getting well is going at a snail's pace. He has two more days of antibiotics and three of steroids. Then we'll see if he's been able to get rid of it and feel better again. I am 75 years old but except for my feet and diabetes, I don't feel that old. I had intended to teach until I died in the classroom; it was my passion. I think I told you I ordered two pairs of
Spencos---one black and one a neutral. Just have to wait until they get here. I looked at Wolkys on Ebay, but all were used. that I saw. I have to be careful because of the hematoma on my ankle----can't wear shoes that come up to the ankle; that's why I wear mules or clogs or sandals. These weeks have been long and even longer days. I'll be glad when we get back to normal, whatever that is.

Hi Carol, I certainly hope your husband responds to the meds. Steroids have a way of knocking bad stuff out of you. God willing, they will. I too, expected to be teaching longer. But in Illinois, teaching became so full of bureaucracy, that I could not take it any more. Just to write up a self evaluation took hours. All lesson plans had to be put on the computer. The principal had about sixty criteria in which she evaluated you. Our school district did everything they could to make the lives of expensive teachers quite miserable. Hence, senior teachers could not wait to leave. It was like corporate America. The older teachers were under a microscope. Scrutinized. I was out the door as soon as possible. After 26 years of impeccable evaluations, I left. I was not going to wait to get a bad one. It was only a matter of time, where that would happen. They would find a way. Money talks. Anyway, again, I really hope your husband gets well. I had a horrific foot day. Burning, stabbing, throbbing...took foot baths, cbd drops, cbd salves....worse than usual, except for part of it. Laura,, how are you doing with your inserts from Foot Solutions ?? I found out there is one not too far from me so I went to look. I didn't get measured or anything because I didn't have a apt. I just wanted to look at the shoes.. Does he seem to think all of this will help your neuropathy..?? The lady said he goes with the way you walk, back ,gait, etc>>> I just don't want anything on my feet but I know I need the support I have planters fasciitis also. There is also one not too far from me called the good feet store. I may check it out also.. Do you mind giving me an idea the cost of the insert??

@peggyn, I just got my orthotics and they have hurt my feet quite a bit but you are only supposed to wear them for one hour the first day, two hours the next and keep adding time each day until you adjust to them. That being said I also bought a new pair of athletic shoes called Brooks Adrenaline. The Foot Solutions store did not have my extra wide width for my toes so I ordered on Amazon. I always have pain whenever I start wearing a new shoe so I want to get my feet used to them before shocking my feet with new shoes plus orthotics. I wouldn’t buy the shoes at their store because the costs are too high. I got them on Amazon. I am almost 64 and I have structural issues going on in my feet especially in my left foot. I am also doing physical therapy and have been given exercises. Everything is really painful and some days I just push through the pain because I am stubborn and really want to be active again.

I saw a certified Pedorthist at Foot Solutions. He/She will examine your feet and look at your walking pattern. He totally knew which athletic shoes would be good for my over pronation in my left foot. I don’t have plantar fasciitis but I’m sure they see that all the time and would definitely recommend the proper shoe for you. I could toatally tell the difference when I got this Brooks shoe...even without the orthotics. The price I paid for orthotics was 360.00. That price includes any adjustments you may need after you start wearing them. My Podiatrist that I saw originally basically did nothing for me! I had to research and try and figure out what to do.

I definately feel that a good supportive shoe will help my neuropathy. It’s just a matter of trial and error and finding what works for you. I know how hard it is to be in pain all of the time with this, it is awful and some days I am just darn worn out!!! I walked for a mile on the track this morning and it really hurt. I soak them at the end of the day in warm water with Epsom salts.

I don’t really know much about The Good Feet stores. I’m sure they also make orthotics but I don’t know if Pedorthist’s work there but I would think that they do. I also don’t know if they also sell shoes there or just do orthotics. You could even visit both and see what feels the best to you. I wish you the best of luck!!! -Laura

Thank you. I also have other problems with the left leg. I have atrophy and nerve damage , that I cannot stand on toes or lift heel, I can both legs at the same time, but not the left by itself, my gait is off an I limp, I’ve done pt, but now I just work out at home as much as possible, I can’t walk very far, but some days I can, I have purchased so many shoes and taken them back,, I just took back a pair of brooks glycerine. I felt like my foot was to contained, I have to find something that works because I don,t have any shoes that feel good enough to get inserts for.

@peggyn, Yes I can’t handle shoes that are too tight. That’s why I was so relieved that they had an extra wide. I can’t stand on my toes or heels. I had a herniated lumbar disk when I was 28 and I know I have some atrophy and adhesions in my left leg which disturbs my gate. I know that the Brooks Dyad 10 is supposed to have more room for an orthotic as well. Keep looking!!

I think I am going to try a mans tennis shoe ,,, they do run wider, it,s worth a try.
I was told the best are brooks , new balance , and asis ,

@peggyn, Yes, I have often thought about a man’s shoe as well being wider. I have a narrow ankle and that could pose a problem in a man’s shoe. But I hope you can give it a try! -Laura

Ladies, I just ordered the Spenco Java shoes on Ebay.. With Erythromelalgia I have to have open toe shoes. This looks like the same style that I use to get from Merrell and they were my go to shoes for a long time, until they cut back and made the soles thinner and less supportive.. I have high hopes for the Spenco sandals now tho.. Thanks for the recommendation..
