Does anyone find that a type of shoe helps your foot neuropathy?

Posted by lorirenee1 @lorirenee1, Mar 25, 2019

I am on a constant quest for shoes that don't kill my feet due to the neuropathy. I find that Spencos and Wolky shoes seem the best. Are there any other suggestions? Shoes can be just crippling for me. Horrid.

@lorirenee1 I would love to have the answer for that too. Wonderful question. I have tried soft soles and hard soles and orthopedic inserts and gel inserts. I have found nothing that keeps my feet from feeling as if I'm walking on broken glass. If you find something, will you let me know? I am almost to the point of not being able to walk. I'm sure there are others who would like suggestions too.
Thanks,

@lorirenee1 and @retiredteacher -- I buy Sketchers slip ons but like any shoes with memory foam inserts they aren't much good after 5 or 6 months. For me I need shoes that I can easily slip on but yet give support sideways. Most tennis shoe type shoes don't give me ankle support.

Dr Comfort -- anything with a big box by the toes -- inserts may help -- expensive but worth it -- if you have diabetes Medicare pays for one pair of shoes per year

I know, Carol. I have so many horrible feelings in shoes. Sometimes I feel like I am walking on pebbles. Sometimes I feel like I am walking on cotton balls, or that my socks are all bunched up in my shoes. Sometimes I feel crazy sharp edges from no where. But the best shoes that do not feel quite as crazy are Spencos and Wolkys. The crazy thing is, barefoot, is also terrible, for other reasons. Let's face it, neuropathy is so difficult. Lori Renee

SAS sandels. They come in all widths. A bit expensive but they last a long time. Wore them before SFN diagnosis. ☺

My mom has Dr. Comfort shoes that are lightweight with stretch fabric and use velcro ties. They also come with inserts. My mom has foot pain and cannot stand on her feet unless she is wearing these shoes. They are recommended for diabetics. You may want to consult a podiatrist for purchasing shoes. My mom's podiatrist has a selection in his office and took the order for her with his recommendation.

Yes, fully agree! Right now my feet hate everything I have tried. I am wearing SAS tour mesh, a sneaker type, but they feel so hard and looking for something else. Do you order the Wolkys and Spenco online? I saw a Wolky sandal that looked comfortable because of a Velcro strap you could adjust near the toes and they were on Amazon. I also need something that’s good for balls of feet...I just keep thinking there is a perfect shoe out there...haha!

@lorirenee1 You're welcome! The podiatrist was very helpful with recommendations and has the shoes on display. He even sold orthotics and I bought a pair on them for myself that were just as good as ones that were custom made for me years ago.
