Feedback on Linzess for Irritable Bowel-C or Chronic Constipation

Posted by sue225 @sue225, Mar 9, 2019

I have both of the above-conditions. Took Linzess, (called Constella in Canada) and got terrible stomach pain. Feeling desperate and thinking about trying it one more time. Interested in hearing what kind of experiences other people have had with linaclotide/linzess.

Hi @sue225 it must be frustrating to have this side effect to linzess.

I wanted to introduce you to @tracy430 @irenec and @agoodmind4u all have experience with linzess and may be able to share how they have done with this prescription.

Back to you @sue225 how long have you been on this medication? Was it just the one time dose?

Yes, only tried it once. It worked, however, I had lots of pain, for many hours; enough to keep me up all night. I have a long history of adverse drug reactions. Will see what other Linzess users say. Thankyou for the new contacts.

I tried 145 mg. And had bad diarrhea so Dr. Tried 72 me. And what a difference. It's been a blessing. Plus some days I can skip a dose. So very important to follow directions. 1/2 HR before first meal.

I've had IBS-C since 1997 and nothing ever worked. Everything wanted to stay in my tummy. I just started Lincess. No way I can take it every day or I would never get to leave home.

Hello. I am glad to hear Linzess works or you. Sounds like it actually works too well. I have had IBS-C all my life. I started taking Linzess about 5-6 years ago. It worked great in in the beginning but eventually, my system got used to it and became no longer effective. Medications usually don't work for me so now my doctor prescribes them together with others. Right now I am on Trulance, Motegrity and Linzess all together. They don't always result in a BM, but when they do I am happy.
I hope you feel better and find the right treatment to deal with your IBS-C

Have you tried any natural approaches? Fresh papaya fruit, eaten daily, normalizes the stomach quite well. Also, bone broth powder, put into orange juice, used daily, can be great at normalizing the stomach problems. Try these. They may work for you. Lori Renee

Linzess works. But the first 2 times I took it, I thought it wasn't going t work. The 3rd day it worked. I did not have any cramps or pains just diarrhea.

I happen to take Linzess as well. It’s kinda of tricky for me. Sometimes I have to take it maybe every other day because if I don’t, I will have diarrhea. Sometimes no matter if I take it everyday or not, I’m still constipated for up to a week sometimes. I hope that it works out better and more consistent for you.

Thank you for the reply. I ma new on the Linzess. Dr. told me to try it for 2 weeks. He warned me of diarhea, but said it would go away. Hope he is correct.
I think one of my fears is that my system will never get back to "normal" and allow for normal bowel movements without Linzess or other meds.
