What's your experience with dialysis? Give & get support here
Dialysis is required if your kidneys don't function adequately on their own. Your doctor will discuss with you the type of dialysis that's best for you. Dialysis treatment is a serious responsibility, You'll need to work closely with your health care team who have experience in managing dialysis. Open communication with your health care team is essential to your overall health.
Fellow patients are a wonderful source of support and practical information because of a shared dialysis experience.
If you are a dialysis patient, or loved one of a patient, what are some things that you have experienced that might be helpful to someone who is new to dialysis? What kind of life adjustments have you had to make? How has it affected your everyday life?

Update for Sat, 8/29: eGFR 8 on 8/21, now dropped to 6 as of Thurs, 8/27. Email overnight telling me new lab posted and I knew neph couldn't have seen it yet so paged her. She said if I wasn't exhibiting worsening symptoms (labs are signs, not symptoms) she thinks it's still safe to stick to current plan for permacath Tues & dialysis Wed but if I start to feel worse call her and meet her in ER. In other words, ok for now. Neighbor helping me watch for probs.
Oh my goodness, @kamama94, I am so glad you paged and heard back from your neph.about these new eGFR results. Grateful also that you have a neighbor helping watch out for you. Know your Mayo team is rooting for you and sending thoughts and prayers your way.
Sunday afternoon: I'm still here - yay! But soooo tired. Hard to stay awake. But as we say in my tribal circle, the owl hasn't yet called my name. That's good news. Hope all my friends in these threads are doing well today. Love and hope live here.
@kamama94 Gentle as you go about your day today... thinking of you.

Wise words. Sometimes our minds won't let us rest, so a thought trick: pick a building, a structure of some kind, and walk through it mentally, seeing everything. Ha! For me, it's Marshall Field's in Chicago, I know not why!!! Sending comfort.
#trishanna, for me it's walking in the woods or by a river.
@kamama94, Was thinking of you so glad to read your post. One more day before you go back for procedure so take it easy, yes?
@trishana, What a great idea! One of the great, additional benefits of this group are the new tricks and tips we learn along the way. Sometimes, when a post triggers a memory from long ago, I give an added thanks and spend reflective time remembering great experiences that hadn't been recalled in years. Not the usual girly shopper, my thoughts usually carry me to scenic areas outdoors. But Hey! Whatever floats our boat and bring some respite, yes????
It's Monday now and I'm still here. Barely. Feeling awful. But here. Permacath tomorrow, dialysis Wed - if I can last that long. Positive vibes welcome.
@kamama94 Corn moon coming in two days, a new start. Hang in there.
