Recipes, Food Tips, Healthy Eating & More
Some of the members of the Gratitude Discussion Group were interested in having a place to share recipes and food ideas. I’m hoping that we can use this thread as a place to have that kind of discussion. I’d love to hear your ideas for quick meals, comfort food, healthy snacks, and more.
Personally, I’ve just been through a bad reaction to one of my medications that left me with a very queasy stomach. I would love to hear ideas – or recipes – that might be used when you need to get something on your stomach, but don’t want to overdo it.
Hopefully, this thread will even be a place where we can share recipes for special treats and yummy rewards. It doesn’t always have to be healthy!
I’d love to hear from members who have been part of other discussions AND from new members who have good ideas, recipes and food tips to share. I’m excited to see who might start us off here with an awesome food suggestion!

@imallears I think it's more that he and Belichick weren't getting along than the money. Brady got a big head over the years and lost respect for the coaches. It certainly is not that he needs the money, and his wife has more than he does.
I guess the warm climate might be appealing, he is originally from San Mateo, CA and the weather is fairly mild there. I have a friend who lives in San Mateo. Still, as a New Englander, he is a turncoat.
This probably is not a discussion for here though.

@jakedduck1 Comfort is very important to me too on long trips. Look for a used Acura. Mine, a CL, was the most comfortable car I have ever driven, it was like sitting in an easy chair. I regretted trading it in immediately after I did it but my husband thought it was at an age where we would start running into problems.

I had a Cadillac El Dorado decades ago and that car was more comfortable than my recliner or any furniture I ever sat on.
If I end up with the Camry and it's uncomfortable I can take it to an upholsterer to redo.

@jakedduck1 That certainly is an option. Camrys are good cars. Mine had gotten old enough to not be worth much so we gave it to my daughter when she was about to graduate from college. It was a fairly ugly beige color (I bought it used) and my kids used to call it "the giant thumb". 😄
I do love Volvos too though and when we replace my CRV I wouldn't mind getting another. Their seats are very comfortable too, and after having three of them totaled I have to believe they are very safe cars in an accident. The worst accident was the one when my daughter was driving and the only ill-effects she had was a big bruise on her thighs from the airbag deploying. The one that my son totaled was pretty bad too. When I went to get my personal possessions out of it in a junkyard I couldn't believe how bad it looked. It didn't look as if a person could have survived the crash without at least some severe injuries. He went around a curve too fast and went straight into a tree. It was early evening, no alcohol or anything involved. I took his license away for a couple of months after that.

Amazing your son wasn't seriously injured. No doubt he has the Volvo to thank for that. My brother had a Volvo. He got rid of it and bought an Acura. That's when he was so seriously injured. I wonder about his injures had he been in a Volvo.
Jake
@jakedduck1 As I said, all three cars were totaled, so we were very fortunate. Frankly, the first one was old enough at the time of the accident that it's hard to say if it had been newer it would have been considered to be totaled. It might have simply been that the value of it was less than the cost to repair would have been.
Both of the accidents my kids were in though were pretty bad. My daughter missed a stop sign due to overhanging foliage on an unfamiliar road at nighttime, drove out onto a road, and was hit by a pickup truck. The pickup truck was totaled too.

I do the same with the tops of beets with olive oil and lemon juice.
@marjou
Thank you @marjou. How do you cook the beets? I never thought about how many nutrients are in the tops. @marjou, are beet tops bitter?

Hi
Sometimes I come across some beet tops that are a little more bitter. I use a Japanese condiment called mirin that brings the bitterness down a bit. When I do cook beets I wrap them individually in aluminum foil and roast them. When they're cool the Skins just slide right off

@imallears I love roasted beets. How long do you usually roast them and at what temperature (I know it probably depends on the size)?
