Recipes, Food Tips, Healthy Eating & More
Some of the members of the Gratitude Discussion Group were interested in having a place to share recipes and food ideas. I’m hoping that we can use this thread as a place to have that kind of discussion. I’d love to hear your ideas for quick meals, comfort food, healthy snacks, and more.
Personally, I’ve just been through a bad reaction to one of my medications that left me with a very queasy stomach. I would love to hear ideas – or recipes – that might be used when you need to get something on your stomach, but don’t want to overdo it.
Hopefully, this thread will even be a place where we can share recipes for special treats and yummy rewards. It doesn’t always have to be healthy!
I’d love to hear from members who have been part of other discussions AND from new members who have good ideas, recipes and food tips to share. I’m excited to see who might start us off here with an awesome food suggestion!

Hello,
Comedian? I'm just a conveyor of facts. Although I am an expert at sitting down I must admit.

I wish I had said that!!!!!
So do you have a tracking number for me for the banana bread or an estimated delivery date? if I don’t like it being sugarless I can always pour some caramel sauce over it.
I'll send you a very special bottle of wine.
Try this, if you don’t like it you can always send it my way you know.
BANANA BREAD with SALTED CARAMEL SAUCE
1/4 cup (57g) salted butter
1 cup (220g) packed light brown sugar
1/2 cup (125ml) heavy cream
1/2 tsp (2.5g) salt
BANANA BREAD
1/2 cup (114g) unsalted butter, softened
3/4 cup (150g) granulated sugar
2 large eggs
4 tbsp (60ml) milk
1 tsp (5ml) vanilla extract
2 cups (250g) all-purpose flour
2 tsp (10g) baking powder
1 tsp (5g) baking soda
1 cup (245g) mashed bananas
1/2 cup (125ml) salted caramel sauce
SALTED CARAMEL SAUCE
Stir together all the ingredients in a small saucepan. Cook over medium-high heat while stirring frequently until all of the sugar is dissolved, and bring to a boil.
Reduce the heat to low and let simmer for 5 minutes. Do not stir.
Remove from stovetop and pour into a heatproof jar. Let cool.
BANANA BREAD
Meanwhile, preheat the oven to 350F and grease a 9×5″ loaf pan.
Using an electric mixer, cream together the butter and sugar in a large bowl. Mix in the eggs, milk and vanilla.
Stir in the flour, baking powder and baking soda until almost combined. Fold in the bananas and caramel until just combined.
Spoon into prepared loaf pan and bake for 55-60 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Let cool and drizzle with more caramel sauce before serving.

Ah ha, finally found out jakedduck1 is a sit down comedian. Probably because of his varicose veins in his legs, from standing all day at his candy dish. This will require a custom made recliner chair with m&m*s printed all over the fabric. Also, will need 2stage hands to put the chair in place on the stage. I will discuss this with all the studio moguls.
There*s not been any good comedians since my friend Buddy Hackett died.
And that’s the truth.

Hi there,
I live in California too, Central California that is. About 75 miles south of Sacramento.
Don’t you think this coronavirus is getting a bit out of hand. Of the 40 million California’s only 0.04% have it. I don’t understand how that can justify all this fear and panic and the empty store shelves. I'm not eating anymore so I don’t need any more food than I ever needed the only thing I’m really doing more of is washing my hands yet a neighbor told me he saw a couple with 3 full carts at the store. These people need to check back into hotel reality.
Jake
@jakedduck1 I think you should be the one to try this recipe and get back to us. Alert the fire dept ahead of time, in case you overdo the sauce-making on the stove. This recipe sounds way too rich for me. Oh, and make extra sauce, so you have something to pour over your ice cream, or cookies, or sweet-of-the-hour ;))

Leonard, you have less cofirmed cases than other States because you started mitigation in early March. Other states didn't start till the end of March or this month. You're also way behind in testing. So please don't get complacent and don't be under the illusion thot there are not more infected people in your state.
The people with all the shopping carts may be buying for others or don't want to have to go out again.
People have really adhered to California's Shelter In Place advisory. People in FL have too yet we have over 14,000 confirmed cases.
Don't let your guard down.

@jakedduck1 That is ridiculous these hoarders are,nt thinking of others they are just selfish.
@imallears
Good evening Mary,
I’m not at all trying to diminish the seriousness of this crisis however common sense seems to have gone by the wayside. I have been home since last April rarely venturing out since I had to take care of my Mom. Since August I go out even less only to donate Platelets twice a month or if the pharmacy screws up my medicine. I did go buy a bed and to the lab a few times but I always carry a bottle of hand sanitizer in my pocket hopefully that does a little good. At last count I understood there to be 17,000 cases in California. I'm sure that’s a low number however I can’t guess I have to go by what the numbers are.
As of yesterday California tested 362 per 100,000 people. The national average is 596 tests per 100,000. New York’s testing has reached 1,748 of every 100,000. California had a backlog of 60,000 tests but now the backlog is just a fraction of that. The governor said that testing in California will increase by five fold by the end of the month, let’s hope so. There have been 450 deaths in California.
Stay safe everybody and be vigilant,
Jake
@jakeduck1
You’re right about common sense going by the wayside in regard to hoarding of groceries and paper products. But it’s also a survival instinct that comes into play. Our supermarkets had to limit the amount you could buy for nearly every item in the store. We won’t run out of food but when you see shelves emptying you start to wonder and I can understand the panic.
I see the same thing when there’s a hurricane on the way even though we know we should all be prepared during Hurricane season.
Maybe stores will take a lesson and limit the number of batteries, flashlights and generators you can buy this year.
Miami is now mandating face coverings in public which is a good idea for that area. We have About 15,860 cases here as of today.
Unlike the Hurricane season here when we are reminded so far in advance about preparedness , we had this virus thrust upon all at once which caused a lot of understandable panic.

That's not banana bread...so much sugar. ..and with caramel sauce no less. So I meant to say I had a Banana Muffin recipe where the only sweetness comes from 3 very ripe mashed bananas. Its paleo and uses almond and coconut flour. I add Craisens and walnuts. But I know it wouldn't be sweet enough for you. And it is dense and very moist and keeps in fridge for a long time.
If anyone else is interested Ill pass it along .
