@contentandwell- I'm coming in here late, I know. JK- Inflammation is exactly what causes bursitis. It's an inflammation of the pads that protect joints. I've had it on and off since I was a kid in my left arm and shoulder area. It's painful.
Here's some more info:

Thanks, @merpreb At this point I have temporarily (maybe temporarily) stopped my PT, it was making me hurt more. I think maybe it was from doing planks. He said my form was good but I ended up with terrible backaches. This PT was great the first time I went to him for back problems, the physical therapy place is actually within a spine center but the therapists do all kinds of PT. I think that may be why he just does not seem as good at other types of PT.
The PA at my orthopedic surgeon's office suggested I see a physiatrist. I plan to make an appointment on Monday with one she highly recommended who is at MGH. My orthopedic doctor is at Brigham and Women's but the two are "partner" hospitals. I spoke to someone on the phone in her office and they said she could help me with that but first I have to have an evaluation, and that would be at MGH. If I have anything else done, it would be at Spaulding Rehab. I hope there is something beyond cortisone shots that can help it to really get better.
