Wow... this particular sub-subject jumps all ove the place. Nice, interesting. Now I’d like to pose a basic question to all who care to chime in: What percentage/how much food do you cook from scratch on average? (I don’t care if you use frozen vegetables, or pre-cut onions, just a general idea?)
I pretty much do close to 90%. I think. Sometimes purchased tortillas, always store bought pasta and pizza crust and pie crust, but otherwise, pretty much from scratch. Baked potatoes, make home style oven fries, make scalloped potatoes, e.g..... And vegetables from garden - sometimes - , and produce stands, mostly. Of course not bananas or pineapple or oranges, but most other stuff.

@ellerbracke Its a surprise party . You never know when it will pop up . Most of my food is scratch Id say about 70% I never had prepared food as my son was allergic so I was organic before the term became popular and canned most of my food .

@ellerbracke
If my friend is staying with me I do 0%, my absolute favorite cooking percentage.
When my friend is staying with me she cooks 💯% scratch.
If she isn’t here I probably cook 40% which is grueling. Another friend takes mercy on me part of the time and even though I’m not suppose to I use some frozen stuff which is still an arduous task to get prepared.

Hi
Interesting.....I would say about 90% or more from scratch also...pretty much don’t like the taste of prepared foods and I am a big ingredient reader. Rather do my own....easy.....not laborious at all . Don’t like frozen meals , not even frozen pizza. I do buy frozen quinoa burgers and chia waffles. Good for you for cooking from scratch.

@ellerbracke - I would say I am pretty close to 90% too. We eat a lot of fish - maybe three times a week. We get that from the local seafood shop and I cook it. On non-fish days, I may cook pork or very rarely a steak. I make little mini-meatloaves and keep them in the freezer for whenever I want something quick. I try to do veggies from the farm stand, but if I don't get by there, I keep frozen vegetables in the freezer.

@ellerbracke I do pretty much everything from scratch except breads and crackers, stuff like that. I used to make all of our bread too but haven’t for years. I don’t do jams and jellies, and I do use some frozen vegetables but I prefer fresh.
Not only does what I make taste better, but that way I can control the ingredients.
