Recipes, Food Tips, Healthy Eating & More
Some of the members of the Gratitude Discussion Group were interested in having a place to share recipes and food ideas. I’m hoping that we can use this thread as a place to have that kind of discussion. I’d love to hear your ideas for quick meals, comfort food, healthy snacks, and more.
Personally, I’ve just been through a bad reaction to one of my medications that left me with a very queasy stomach. I would love to hear ideas – or recipes – that might be used when you need to get something on your stomach, but don’t want to overdo it.
Hopefully, this thread will even be a place where we can share recipes for special treats and yummy rewards. It doesn’t always have to be healthy!
I’d love to hear from members who have been part of other discussions AND from new members who have good ideas, recipes and food tips to share. I’m excited to see who might start us off here with an awesome food suggestion!

Freezing question......can those chopped onions that come in the plastic containers be froze? I suppose they need to be put in a different container. I read when plastic freezes it produces carcinogens, not sure if it’s true though.

Hi,
Put them in a zip loc bag. Those plastic containers aren’t meant to be frozen but are good as storage so you can wash and reuse if you want.
Recommend just patting them down with paper towel before you do or spreading them out on a towel to air dry briefly. If they are wet they will stick together when frozen...same goes for any veggie.
I freeze peppers and blueberries and strawberries. I found it good to dry and put on a baking pan and freeze for about an hour or two uncovered or until they are frozen. Then you can just dump the whole thing in a zip loc and they are individually frozen.

@jakeduck1 I do the same you can save space in the freezer by stacking the plastic bags in the freezer It takes to much space with those plastic containers.
@lioness
Thanks Linda, I just wanted to make sure they wouldn’t go bad.

@contentandwell Stuffed Peppers are good served with a side of applesauce and cornbread.
That's a great process for freezing fruit, @imallears, thanks!
@imallears
Hey there Mary,
Ya know, you might actually know what your talking about and are probably a good cook, well, when your not creating some abnormal ghastly conglomeration.
Thank you for your helpful advice. Halloween is just around the corner, do you give out some ghoulish brew or something normal to the little kiddos.

@jakeduck
Leonard, Thanks....I think. We only give out Snickers and Reese’s Pieces peanut cups because that’s the only leftover candy we like.
When we moved to this gated community 14 years ago, all the kids were small . The association wouldn’t allow the gates to be opened and thereare only about 24 homes here. Everyone grew up and, for many years, there were no trick or treaters anymore.Happy to say we’ve had an influx of new, young families over the past 2 years but still not enough to warrant even 2 small bags.
We use to deck out houses big time with eerie music and smoke coming out of a cauldron (nothing I cooked) and decorations galore. When my grandkids were little I gave them each a bag of candy and toothpaste and floss. So I miss that. My son lives near a neighborhood that has its streets closed off for several hours so the kids can roam. We all went over there to Orlando quite often. The homeowners had popcorn machines and would sit outside having a party and drinking margaritas. They had security and the streets were reopened around 10 Pm I think. More fun than Christmas. When my son in law retires in a few years we are going to move. Gated communities are death traps for seniors if they don’t drive. I need more activity and excitement around me.
Talking to you is not enough....haha.
Anyway, the only concoction I will make will probably be a smoked bourbon. Or maybe a Bloody Mary . Have to check the vodka status next door at my daughters. Use to love Halloween so much ....now I only wear a ghoulish t shirt and spider earrings.
Made a shirt last year that says Happy Hallowine with dancing skeletons.
What do you do? Or is showing up at the door scary enough? hahaha
FL Mary
@imallears
Are you sure that cauldron wasn’t something you cooked I’ll probably always wonder about that. “Or is showing up at the door scary enough? hahaha”
For me or them? Or do you mean you showing up at my door, that probably would be a horrifying experience alright, lol.
Last year I didn’t answer the door. I’m sure the goblins remembered the year before. I got bags and put 20 pieces of candy in them. I got more kids than ever. I don’t mind the little monsters but when adults show up it’s not much, out go the lights. Besides the little ones come early. I use to put out automated monsters and fog machine and witch storing cauldron. A few of the little one cried. Some of my favorite decorations were stolen. It’s not so much the loss of the stuff but the fact I was with my Grandmother when I bought some of it. I’m sentimental and I very few of those memories. When my mom passes 99% of those memories will be gone, as though I never had parents. She remembers virtually everything. It will be like I was 15 again. Back when every memory I had disappeared.

@hopeful33250 I love cornbread but it is fairly caloric. I love biscuits too but they are even worse! I try to not indulge in too many carbs except whole grain ones.
