Recipes, Food Tips, Healthy Eating & More
Some of the members of the Gratitude Discussion Group were interested in having a place to share recipes and food ideas. I’m hoping that we can use this thread as a place to have that kind of discussion. I’d love to hear your ideas for quick meals, comfort food, healthy snacks, and more.
Personally, I’ve just been through a bad reaction to one of my medications that left me with a very queasy stomach. I would love to hear ideas – or recipes – that might be used when you need to get something on your stomach, but don’t want to overdo it.
Hopefully, this thread will even be a place where we can share recipes for special treats and yummy rewards. It doesn’t always have to be healthy!
I’d love to hear from members who have been part of other discussions AND from new members who have good ideas, recipes and food tips to share. I’m excited to see who might start us off here with an awesome food suggestion!

And what's so terrible about marriage, @jakedduck1?
I wanted to share with the group that these grocery delivery services are wonderful! I use Instacart but there are others I'm sure. I can go online and select the foods I want, and I receive text messages from the shopper and while the items are delivered to my door. I just love it. I don't drive anymore, but if I wasn't feeling well and I needed something from the store , its really easy to just order it and have it delivered.
I paid $99 a year for the service, I was alittle concerned about that but not anymore. I order $35 of ittems at no delivery charge, and I usually tip my delivery person $5-$8. I usually text message while they are shopping, things like, green bananas please, not brown, etc.
Instacart is a nice service if its offered in your area.
@lioness Glad to hear the injection helped. How often will you need to get one? I think I am due for another injection in my hip for bursitis, it's been hurting but mainly when I try to lie on my right side.
@jakedduck1 If you do make the effort to make this salad, it sounds delicious to me, if you use cherry tomatoes it is best to slice them so they will absorb the dressing. Some people cut them in half, I actually like to slice them into a few pieces.
If you are making a salad with lettuce and tomatoes though, do not attempt to store it for the next day unless you are using whole cherry tomatoes, or you store the tomatoes separately. The juice makes everything wilt and get sort of disgusting.
My almost daily lunch salad is lettuce (any variety except for iceberg), strawberries, and chicken. It's excellent if you put crumbled goat cheese on it but now that I am lactose intolerant I can't do that. I do sometimes put blue cheese it. Blue cheese is aged and aged cheeses lose the lactose because it's in the whey and the whey drops out in aging. I generally use Paul Newman's Raspberry Walnut dressing on it. It's fairly low-cal and low-sodium. Whole Foods has a good raspberry dressing too, but I prefer Newman's.
@imallears The facilities that you refer to are great but extremely costly. We considered one for my aunt but when we realized if she lived more than two years more she would end up being kicked out we decided to not risk it.
@user_chdb5e8ac I have always hesitated to use grocery delivery services because I am not confident that they will be as choosy as I am in selecting produce and meats. Have you found them to be good about that? I supposed to some extent it depends on the shopper doing the selections, but I am pretty picky. I'm a fanatic about choosing fish - no more than 2 days old.
JK
yes, choosing fresh produce and vegetables is a bit nebulous with another shopper doing the shopping. I try to text instructions as best as i can, like please choose green bananas rather than brown bananas.
I have kinda a funny story about that recently, as I ordered one clump of vine ripe tomatoes on the website, which meant 4-5 tomatoes on the vine. Instead I received just a single tomato - lol. I guess interpretation is everything, I did after all order one on the website 🙂
as for buying fresh produce, I think it depends upon the store you're shopping from. Instacart allows shopping at different locations. I've found the best produce is delivered from a store called Schnucks. I'd like to try Fresh Tyme Market next as I like to shop there in person for fresh organic produce.
Your story reminded me of the time I too ordered from online groceries. I ordered a pound of Brussels sprouts and when I got my order, there was only one little sprout in the bag!
@margieinia Now that's funny. I would think in a situation like that the shopper would check, who wants ONE brussel sprout? Plus, one sprout does not weigh a pound.
JK
I would have thought so too. The guy couldn’t have been more the 18 years old at the most and what teenager would eat veggies, let alone know about them! 🤣
@jakedduck1 Yea jake Id like to hear this also .
@user-chdb5e8ac I agree with you about Instancart I love it I cant go shopping anymore either altho I go for few items not a lot of groceries . I love instacart they signed me up but right now I opted out as I cant pay the full amount at one time . I might contact them and see if they have a payment plan. Do you know anything about this ?
user_chdb5e8ac One tomato lol I ordered a small watermelon one time the shopper didn't know how to pick out a good one I ended up using it I'm my blender as a smoothie . I didn't think of texting her next time I will give instructions.
