CBD Daily Spray and blood thinners

Hello @hazelnut. It sounds like you are on the right path speaking with your pharmacist. Because there is a lack of research on medical marijuana, CBD, and THC products, it is likely that a definitive answer will be difficult. While we wait for other members to chime in, and for your cardiologist to get back to you, did your pharmacist explain why you should not use CBD with blood thinners? Because everyone reacts to medications differently, and members are not medical professionals, getting a definitive answer may be difficult. If you are able to speak with your cardiologist about it, ask specific questions.

Afternoon Justin. The pharmacist said that although it is topical it is likely some of the spray will get into the blood stream and could increase the effect of the blood thinner. I called the cardiologist yesterday for test results from Tuesday and also about using the CBD spray. No response yet. I have a surgeon that said I could stop taking blood thinners......then the one cardiologist said , NO ! I have to stay on blood thinners the rest of my life.....then the A-fib cardiologist specialist said that maybe in a year I can stop the Xarelto . Three doctors, three different opinions. Same confusing opinions regarding hip surgery. The one cardiologist said go enjoy life and get that hip fixed. The orthopedic surgeon said I was not a good candidate for surgery. One doctor said I had Lupus, another doctor said it's rosacea. I see an rheumatologist this Thursday to see what she has to say. I am so disgusted with the difference of opinions .These Golden Years are not what I expected. Next month I am going to a seminar regarding stem cell for the hip, that should be interesting .

@hazelnut it seems to me with all the differing opinions of your doctors, you would really benefit from visiting Mayo, where the MD's work together. Just a thought.

That would probably be best but at this time impossible. I am anxious to get the opinion from the rheumatologist . I was never really sick and during a routine yearly check up by my family doctor he had me go to he clinic for an EKG and then a cardiologist. I was in the hospital 15 days as everything that could go wrong did. I had open heart surgery and had the valve replaced with the cow part. I never felt sick and was active but after that surgery the body kinda retaliated...lol The surgeon said I had less than a year to live and was lucky I had the surgery. I'm sure hip surgery is in the near future...….next month I am attending a seminar regarding stem cell and hope that some type of miracle will happen to ease the pain and have some procedure that is less evasive than surgery.

The cardiologist's office just called...all test results from Tuesday are normal and the cardiologist said I can try the CBD spray. Yippee....I asked the nurse about stopping the blood thinner and she said they didn't test for that.....complete opposite of what I was told when I was called to go to the clinic for a blood test. Oh well....half good news is better than none.

Hello Betty! I can sympathize with you over back and knee pain. I am in the same boat. For my almost bone on bone knee issues I have gotten shots of Synvisc every 6 months. It works like a charm without the negative effects of cortisone...but it costs.
I was in Holland in May and visited a health store that sold marijuana products. From walking so much around Amsterdam and even from standing still in museums, my back was aching very badly. I asked if some topical CBD oil (without THC which is unnecessary) could help my back. The naturopath salesman said that he could certainly sell me some and make money but truthfully, it cannot penetrate into the back. I didn't ask about taking a pill by mouth.
One thing I do find very helpful is turmeric which is nature's anti-inflammatory. I put some into my morning smoothie.
And what causes inflammation throughout the body?...carbs. So I have upped the veggie intake to 7 servings per day and cut back on anything sweet or too bready.
And of course, exercises and stretches are very important. I visited my physiotherapist last week and she gave me a number of exercises to do which will help as I sail (or limp) into old age!

Hello ....are those shots you get covered by insurance? I was using turmeric but had to stop using it because of the Xarelto. Also, had to stop drinking cranberry juice or taking any cranberry pills. I won't have any more steroid shots since the last one effected my right foot where the left side is numb all the time. Although it's my hip the pain is in my knee and down my leg and also the groin. That's probably the fibromyalgia though. The constant backache is from my meds. These Golden Years are not the happiest ! 🙁 Thank you for your response and hoping you have less pain and happy days.

I'm on Eliquis and am using CBD oil. I'm glad you asked the question because I was unaware of any potential problems. I will have to check with my cardiologist also. I have been taking a high dose 750 for a few months now. I don't think I have any issues.

One of my facebook friends has been using the CBD oil orally everyday and she has had several bouts of excessive bleeding and had to go to the ER. She is on coumadin though so not sure if that was the problem.Although I am still on Xarelto ( numerous side effects) my new cardiologist recommends Eliquis for his patients and I am thinking when my new heart monitoring results come back this week that he will change my blood thinner to Eliquis. And, have you heard of the Watchman ? It's a procedure that eliminates blood thinners and he said I might want to consider that in the future. Please check with your doctor just to be on the safe side . I would think if you were going to have any issues you would have known about it sooner so I think you're fine but just for peace of mind I would ask him. Take care
