GI Disorder and Internal Shaking

Posted by gigiraj @gigiraj, Feb 15, 2019

Hi all. I'm a 21 year old South Asian female and I have been having GI issues for about five years--mainly along the lines of constipation. I do have bowel movements every day but it takes a long time & I am rarely fully cleared out. These GI issues are always accompanied by other health issues (gas, pressure in head, etc). Recently, some scary new conditions have manifested: In the past few weeks, there have been times where my heart starts beating wildly and very fast. Sometimes, when I'm tired and constipated, my entire body feels like its vibrating internally; the shakes aren't visible but it feels like all my muscles are quivering. At this point, I feel a constant shaking/quivering within my body, especially in my heart cavity.

I have had TWO EKG's and both came back normal. All lab tests for diabetes, hypertension, cholesterol, etc came back within normal limits. I am very concerned about this internal shaking. My dad says he found something about how GI disorders can impact muscoskeletal system and since the heart is a muscle, it's contracting and being affected. But I wanted to know if anyone here can help!!!!!!! If anyone knows anything at all please please please let me know!!!!!

Hi everyone. Well I'm here because I have been having the same internal tremors. Mostly at night but also starting throughout the day. Because I have been diagnosed in my early years with anxiety this is where the doctors always go to. I am on omeprazole because originally I would wake up with Tremor's just in my stomach. That all calmed down but with the stress if this past month or so I'm waking up with the racing heart which goes into sweating momentously and the shakes. It's starting throughout the day and I mostly feel shaky in my legs. When I sit down for the day, usually after dinner it starts. I'm feeling like it's really starting to affect my whole life in general because I hate this feeling and resisting it saved making it worse. I've had this problem on and off. All my tests have come out fine also accept for being diagnosed with SVT which isn't the cause. I used to think it was constant overstimulation and then my nerves take forever to get. I would appreciate any suggestions for calming this down. I have been put on xanax. I'm not usually a pill taker, but I'm desperate to feel normal! Even a turn over in bed will start these symptoms while asleep.

@renmon56 What does your Cardiologist say about how to live with SVT.. There are medications for SVT have have many side effects. There is a relatively simple massage that helps SVT... The Mayo site even says the following, "Carotid sinus massage. Your doctor may try this type of massage that involves applying gentle pressure on the neck — where the carotid artery splits into two branches — to release certain chemicals that slow the heart rate." ... When your heart is racing it is difficult to relax..

Hello everyone,
Let me just say how greatful I am to have fallen on this site while researching tremors. I have a son who was diagnosed with celiac at age 2 along with lactose intolerance. I have always had a GF kitchen and now that he is grown and out in the world. I occasionally would make some flour recipes. Having stomach issues myself as a child and into adulthood I never had myself tested. For celiac. 2 years ago I felt the years creep up on me and thought I would slowly change my ways. 18 months later I felt wonderful. Walking 4 TO 5 miles a day keeping my weight on track and eating a GF diet again and slowly became vegan. I felt wonderful like 20 years had been taken off my age. But then out of nowhere stomach pain. Excruciating to my knees pain. The gerd I had 18 months prior had come back. I met with a gastroenteroligist and washout on famotidine 20 mg 2 times a day. And schd a endoscopy for biopsies for celiac. I was instructed to go back on a gluten diet until my test. That was three weeks of torture. I started with a slight tremor inside. Scared the daylights out of me. The first time it happened it felt like someone had walked through me. Then as days went on it. Was intermittent until this past Thanksgiving. That was the worst. My entire body was a roller coaster inside. I looked in the mirror and I could not see what I was feeling inside. It think my eyes were shaking as well. I called my NP the next day and was seen within Three days. She told me to stop the famotadine that day. I had blood work and My thyroid tested. All my levels were in normal range and I was instructed to reach out to a neurologist. Nothing good can come from that appointment. My endoscopy was still scheduled on Wednesday. I had the endoscopy and a sigmoidoscopy three days ago. I return back to the Gastroenterologist in one week for the results. My tremors have lessened and my tongue when I stick it out not longer has the tremor. Could it have been the famotadine or the Gluten diet I was on before the procedure.? Any and all opinions are appreciated. I do not want to go to the Neurologist. Thanks for letting me release ☺ Blessings All !

It's your Vagus Nerve. Something is making it malfunction. This nerve controls many things, heart, blood pressure, gi tract. Once it starts acting up you can have all sorts of weirdness.

I believe that perhaps low stomach acid might affect the vagus nerve.

Thank you, I will research that..

I've had internal shaking all my life. I started out with Celiac Disease as a toddler. My parents ignored my bloated stomach and body. I was shaky and it effected my cognitive abilities.Kids ridiculed me and called me stupid. Then I became a Type 1 diabetic and years later, I developed Microscopic Colitis. All this is autoimmune in nature. Plus I have Spasmodic Torticollis and put on Klonopin. That helped the shaking and involuntary movements prescribed by a neurologist. Think of all the nerves in your gut. The solar plexus and the multitude of nerves and the GUT is your SECOND BRAIN. It controls a lot and GI specialists don't help nor do they care. That's been my life with them. I have no confidence with Gastroenterologist specialists.

One more thing. It does effect your heart. There's no damage but you feel as though you have heart problems. I had a Cat Scan of my heart and everything's fine. The problem is my GUT. I had no diarrhea with Celiac Disease but Microscopic Coltis put me on the toilet 25 times a day. Severe diarrhea. I was wearing diapers. I had a stool sample performed by Dr. Fine and I can't eat gluten, no milk, drink or eat anything with Soy and everything I eat has to be soft. Plus lots of protein for healing. Microscopic Colitis is more confusing than Celiac Disease. I basically eat a Cave Man's Diet! First off, if you think you are like me, get on the Microscopic Colitis website. Tex started the Forum. He's wonderful! Tell him Dorothy Olson told you to contact him. Mine is so bad, many times I have extreme BRAIN FOG! I'm always losing things and can't write properly. It does effect your brain. I hope I've helped you. Dorothy Olson Williams

My problem isn't an every day occurrence, but when it does come on, it is mostly at night when I'm laying down to rest. It almost seems to start when my Digestive system reaches a point of distress, either from something I may have eaten, or possibly from taking too much to combat my gut issues like Probiotics, magnesium, digestive Enzymes, lemon water, or Peppermint oil. It's truly hard to tell, but my gut goes into such distress that my body breaks out into tremors sometimes lasting about 30 minutes. Doesn't help that I panic, but my wife is a godsend and gently rubs my belly in a form that actually brings relief and gets my mind off things. The tremors are specifically in my lower abdomen and from there radiate to my legs. I can visually see my thighs twitching from the tremors. I'm going in for a colonoscopy on December 9th to rule that out, but have to admit this is concerning. I'm very focused at the moment on healing my gut, cause I feel there is truly a connection between gut health and so many diseases and symptoms these days.

My symptoms are very similar to yours. I have suffered for years from the internal vibrations, tinnitus and arms falling asleep. It too has taken a toll on me. I have been to countless doctors and naturopaths with no happy results. Recently, I came across an article discussing low stomach acid. I never would have thought that this is something I have, as I do not have reflux, however after doing several morning tests with baking soda, (you can google this) I have finally found some relief. I am taking absorbic acid in the form of vitamin C with my breakfast and dinner meals. I am also taking a digestive enzyme. The idea is that the increase in stomach acid helps food and nutrition to be broken down easier. For me, I believe that improperly digested food is causing intolerances that are causing my tremors. I am also taking Vitamin d and the sublingual form of B12. It has only been two weeks and I do have a little shaking upon waking, but I feel that I am headed in the right direction to getting better. Good luck to you in finding help.
