@racing212 Apparently the original school of thought was to pretty much eliminate protein but then they realized people were actually getting malnourished so the current school of thought with most doctors is to enjoy it in limited quantities. Is that what your doctor told you to do?

@racing212, Hoping all goes well and you are feeling better soon.
I have no experience with HE, except that my labs were constantly monitored for ammonia levels, and my husband was alerted to possible signs that it was present. So am I correct to assume that you have labs drawn between now and your Sept appointment? Will you need a transplant?

@racing212, I read that you are a patient at Mayo Rochester. It's a good place! That is where I received my transplant, (simultaneous liver and kidney in 2009). I was actually flown there from ICU in Kentucky, and lived in Rochester with my husband at the Gift of Life House from late Feb. 2009 - until after my transplant and recovery on mid May 2009. If haven't checked out the Gift of Life Transplant House, I highly suggest that you do so.
Rodney, Are you on the transplant list yet?
@racing212@rosemarya I of course did have HE episodes but I was told that monitoring ammonia levels was not very useful. Some people can get HE with lower levels, and some people with higher levels do not get them! Also, they change quickly so if you are monitored it only predicts for that day basically. My PCP wanted to monitor them but the hepatologist said it was not a very accurate predictor. I felt it was for me, but again, things can change and unless you are monitoring daily then it doesn't make a lot of sense.

I have to call my gyno today. I do have a Primary also. As far as biopsy I go back to my Gastro July 3.
Thanks so much for checking on me. I greatly appreciate it!!
Awww you are so sweet!! No I’ll be going by myself and will see what happens. I’ve been continuing to struggle with certain vices that I know I need to get control of or there will be no point to seek out help from doctors etc
Gotta start taking way better care of myself honestly!!
I do thank you so much for your kind words it’s definitely a help!!

@cwilliamson77, I care, and I know that sometimes having a hand to hold, or a word of support goes a long way. That happens every day here on Connect where strangers become friends because they share and support others like themselves.
If you are not comfortable sharing your problems in public, you can send me a private message (envelope on top right of this page) and i will do my best to connect you with others who might be able to support you.

Yes i need a transplant and they do monitor my amonia levels. Mostly when I'm in the hospital. It's been 5 weeks since i was there.

@cwilliamson77, I hope you have a good visit with your GI tomorrow. I will be thinking about you. Is someone going with you as a 2nd set of ears?
