Shingrix and peripheral neuropathy

Colleen, in going back and looking at how this conversation got sidetracked I see that it was due to a lack of awareness by me, and I am sorry about that. I really appreciate you pointing it out, and I will try to pay more attention to this from now on.

not sure what shankgirx is, but I have a question. My doctor diagnosed me with neuropathy and sometimes the pain is manageable, but today, it feels like a "hot" electric wire going from my low back at the beginning, and then down both legs on the outside of the leg through the knees and to the top of my feet. Is this the way it is for you all?

Hi there @maryflorida, for starters Shingrix is the new and improved shingles vaccine. While we wait for the shock report from John, I would like to ask you if this is the first time you have had the "hot" electric wire pain. My finding so far is that I have gone through many phases of neuropathy.......some have associated pain that is overwhelming and then goes away. We ( my MFR therapist and I) call those "flares" which means we don't expect them to stick around.

As an example, two weeks ago, my left foot was what you call "hot" electric wire and others seem to say "burning". I couldn't put my heel down and of course, had difficulty walking. She spent about 20 minutes on the left foot and the next morning it was tender but not pathetically painful. Her parting words.........just keep calling it a "flare"....see you next week.
The next day I shuffled around a bit and by day two I was back on the Riverwalk.

The following week...... the same thing happened. I went for my walk and back came the flare. 20 minutes of MFR and overnight, the second "flare" took a flying leap.
Today is week 3......no issues.....walked an extra mile or so quite comfortably. Just got home and perhaps this "flare" is history.

And of course @maryflorida there are those pain/body symptoms that do become a major and progressive pain issue requiring treatment and medical assistance.

I also look back and remember the abdomen fires and the leg shocks. They were huge and now they are gone. Let's hope we have just "flares".

I would add that Linda gets shooting pains regularly that start quick and over quick, which is a little different than you both are describing. They happen suddenly, without warning, and seem to happen somewhat randomly. It might happen in her chest, her side, a foot, a leg. Most often probably one or other of her feet, and of course that is the center of her PN. But it happens in other places too. Sometimes it will start in her foot and then go all the way up her body, not just localized. Usually lasts about 30 seconds to a minute or two at most. Sometimes will repeat soon after the first instance. No clue why it comes or where it goes. I know it happens at times I am not around as well as times when I am, and I would estimate that it happens once or twice a week in my presence.

The pain from these incidents is super intense, she sometimes says it's like someone is shoving a needle into her, very sharp,very intense, she yells out in pain, holding whatever place is affected, then it is over, thankfully. She says it seems electrical in nature. I suppose it's just another neuropathy symptom as I don't think it used to happen before she got PN. Hank
