Radiation therapy after chemo for bc

Posted by karendb @karendb, Jan 23, 2019

Hi everyone. I have just completed 16 weeks of chemo after having a lumpectomy for bc. I have suffered extreme fatigue where I can barely function which has eased a bit. I just today had my 2nd dose of radiation of 25 and would like to know if I should expect the extreme fatigue to come back. And if there are any other side effects I should be aware of. Thank you for any help.

You may get fatigue with radiation and eventually get sunburn-type burn. I had 1 lumpectomy followed by chemo, then partial mastectomy on one side and mastopexy on the other, followed by radiation (day 20 today). Each aspect has it's own problems. Just take one day at a time. While undergoing radiation, be sure to follow nurse's instructions. My doctor advised calendula cream. I also started using tamanu oil to help with burn. I have 10 more radiation treatments and then it's on to HRT meds. Hoping your side effects are few - all the best to you.
