Gratitude Discussion Group

Posted by Debbra Williams, Alumna Mentor @debbraw, Nov 24, 2018

Hi everyone! Just before Thanksgiving @michellegraffradford posted a blog called Gratitude Changes Everything. She suggested three techniques to help incorporate gratitude into our daily lives:

  • Start the Day with Gratitude (before getting up think of three people you are grateful for)

  • Maintain a Gratitude Journal to record times when you are grateful

  • Count Blessings – not sheep! (Review the day and remember moments of gratitude)

Her blogpost was so inspiring that a lot of us decided we wanted to form a Gratitude Group to keep the attitude of gratitude going. The blogpost area is not an ideal space for a big discussion group so I am moving the discussion over here to the “Just Want to Talk” Group. Let’s use this space to share and discuss our Gratitude Journey. I’m going to suggest that we each try to take a minute from the day and post here what has made us feel thankful today. It can be as small as a stranger’s smile on the bus or as large as fulfilling a major life dream – or anywhere in between. We can also discuss how we are doing with the three techniques. Sometimes it is easier to form new habits with support from others.

Michelle's full blogpost is at the link below. You may want to review it or print it out to help get started!

I look forward to hearing from others in the Gratitude Group and to having others join us here! Thanks to those who already shared great stories. If you haven't yet, what gratitude will you share today?!

@contentandwell We got half the bedroom painted, which was the goal, yesterday. As the walls are textured, which I love, they also take more paint and effort. Bless his heart, I did cleaning not painting, and he was fine with that. Today we will assemble the bed, which is an older 1970 side towers with mirrors and headboard style, pretty massive. We had a captain's bed made to fit it. Neighbor will be available if we need his muscle. All this boils down to, we don't need a gym right now! Walking and using stretch bands seem to fill out our need for exercise ;))

Ha ha....I guess @jakeduck1 does need me. Who else is he going to send obnoxious food websites to. I follow my gym teachers routine and do some yoga. I thought I made a yoga position up but found out it was called the Happy Baby position lol. But I stretch throughout the day and have some projects to,do. It’s easier to keep busy when you have a house and property to fool around with. We were suppose to have a birthday party for my instructor before this happened and we get together after class once or twice a month at a restaurant. I’ll go if I am okay with the restaurant...slim pickings where I live and no one wants to travel south to the next county for better options....sigh.

I’m basically in for the for next 2 weeks I guess.

You stay safe too...no lurking in the hallways (that would be me)

@gingerw it sounds like quite a bed! Even just doing the cleaning can be draining so please take care of YOU!
You may not need a gym, but I sure do. Walking on pavement is taking a toll, if I do too much I’m really hurting later that day and on the next day.

@funcountess I do intend to stay home, it’s just a case of how long it will be for. Being high risk I am not in a hurry to risk returning to my health club. I hate to spend some hundreds of dollars if things will be better in May.

@imallears the gyms are still open there? They have been closed for weeks here. I have things set up set up in my daughter’s bedroom, just a mat, some resistance bands, etc. The bike is in my bedroom. I keep trying yoga but having had two knee replacements, it’s not working well for me.

Hi
No gyms have been closed for a couple of weeks. Actually me and a few friends made the decision to stop group classes only 2 classes before they cancelled all group classes so we did not jump the gun by too much.

Once again-I am grateful for my Connect friends. I have enjoyed catching up a bit and my numbness allowing me some time to be here. Stay safe and well.

@parus You said in your last post, "and my numbness allowing me some time to be here." If you are comfortable doing so, what do you mean about that?

In our little town the only restaurant closed about 12 days ago, and everyone is hoping it will reopen this next week, but we just don't know. A couple who own a Greek restaurant 50 miles from here, but live in our valley, have opened their limited take-out menu, to take orders from us locals, and deliver them 4 nights a week. Last night we met up with them near the baseball dugouts of the high school, and picked up a nice feast. Four vehicles, socially distanced, windows down and talking, waiting for our food to arrive. Totally a show of how a town is pulling through this. We are adapting, we are stronger than all this!

@hopeful33250 I have been having more trouble with neuropathy. Typically if I lie flat for a few it dissipates and I can get a few more things done. Likely has something to do with the spine issues-I am guessing. Spinal stenosis, degenerative disc disease, scoliosis and some other things. The TMJ has my ears ringing as well. Physically I am a mess. Head in an acceptable place... 🙂 My comment about numbness was confusing. No comments about the acceptable placement of my head...please.
Yes, my humor is still intact. The microscopic viruses threatening to take over world power is unsettling at times.
