Gratitude Discussion Group

Posted by Debbra Williams, Alumna Mentor @debbraw, Nov 24, 2018

Hi everyone! Just before Thanksgiving @michellegraffradford posted a blog called Gratitude Changes Everything. She suggested three techniques to help incorporate gratitude into our daily lives:

  • Start the Day with Gratitude (before getting up think of three people you are grateful for)

  • Maintain a Gratitude Journal to record times when you are grateful

  • Count Blessings – not sheep! (Review the day and remember moments of gratitude)

Her blogpost was so inspiring that a lot of us decided we wanted to form a Gratitude Group to keep the attitude of gratitude going. The blogpost area is not an ideal space for a big discussion group so I am moving the discussion over here to the “Just Want to Talk” Group. Let’s use this space to share and discuss our Gratitude Journey. I’m going to suggest that we each try to take a minute from the day and post here what has made us feel thankful today. It can be as small as a stranger’s smile on the bus or as large as fulfilling a major life dream – or anywhere in between. We can also discuss how we are doing with the three techniques. Sometimes it is easier to form new habits with support from others.

Michelle's full blogpost is at the link below. You may want to review it or print it out to help get started!

I look forward to hearing from others in the Gratitude Group and to having others join us here! Thanks to those who already shared great stories. If you haven't yet, what gratitude will you share today?!

@gingerw Glad to hear you are home. I hope all goes well with your tests. Will you post an update after they are over?

@hopeful33250 that procedure was back in the late nineties! They were trying to track down a reason low blood counts. Never did figure out why but kept pointing towards the fibroid tumors that were finally surgically removed January 1999. Since then I have had colonoscopies several times due to polyps.

@debbraw- I agree, the prep is awful. Hopefully someone will come up with a better way to explore

Grateful my favorite little guy came to for a play day on Tuesday. He is my best medicine. There are so many ways to show love and he is my champion. so accepting. So full of questions. I enjoy his curious and imaginative mind.
Visit to the cardiovascular surgeon went well and eased my mind. Something to keep an eye on for changes.
Keep hoping the pain will improve and knowing it is not likely. My little grandson and I have flowers to plant and learn about the bugs, birds and so much more. We did some watercolors and he now is painting trees that look like trees just by watching me. My little artist. 🙂

@merpreb - Totally agree. But if you ever get a choice, choose the Miralax prep. It is much more gentle, only requires 64 oz of fluid which is 4 cups the night before and 4 cups the morning of, AND it is very effective. My friend gave me that advice and I will never go back to those other preps.

@parus Hi Parus, I’m so glad you have a “favorite little fellow” to hang out with! I’m sure the distraction of playing with him can only help you! I’m very glad you let us know today of your happiness! ........Karen

@parus I'm happy to hear that your appointment was helpful. Good for you! What fun that you can be an art teacher for your little buddy. He will always remember those fun times.

@debbraw I wonder if that is as effective and if most GI doctors allow that instead of the other horrendous prep. I hopefully won’t need a colonoscopy for quite a while but I really hate the other prep.
