Gratitude Discussion Group

Posted by Debbra Williams, Alumna Mentor @debbraw, Nov 24, 2018

Hi everyone! Just before Thanksgiving @michellegraffradford posted a blog called Gratitude Changes Everything. She suggested three techniques to help incorporate gratitude into our daily lives:

  • Start the Day with Gratitude (before getting up think of three people you are grateful for)

  • Maintain a Gratitude Journal to record times when you are grateful

  • Count Blessings – not sheep! (Review the day and remember moments of gratitude)

Her blogpost was so inspiring that a lot of us decided we wanted to form a Gratitude Group to keep the attitude of gratitude going. The blogpost area is not an ideal space for a big discussion group so I am moving the discussion over here to the “Just Want to Talk” Group. Let’s use this space to share and discuss our Gratitude Journey. I’m going to suggest that we each try to take a minute from the day and post here what has made us feel thankful today. It can be as small as a stranger’s smile on the bus or as large as fulfilling a major life dream – or anywhere in between. We can also discuss how we are doing with the three techniques. Sometimes it is easier to form new habits with support from others.

Michelle's full blogpost is at the link below. You may want to review it or print it out to help get started!

I look forward to hearing from others in the Gratitude Group and to having others join us here! Thanks to those who already shared great stories. If you haven't yet, what gratitude will you share today?!

Although that is a bit on the chilly side it would be nice to live where I could experience all 4 seasons. But with those temps it might be the last place I ever live.

Today I am grateful that I am feeling better after a short bout with a stomach bug. I can return to work today in the cold and the wind. Maybe I'm not so grateful after all? 😉
Blessings,

@jodeej I'm glad you are over your stomach bug. The weather here is also raw and rainy. I have two appointments this afternoon and I dread having to go to them.
How is Tim's speech therapy working out? I presume it does take a while to see results.

@lioness they wouldn't want to be around here, they'd freeze to death! It's supposed to get down to zero tonight.

I really hope we are out of those single digit temperatures. It's 53° here now. I don't mind the thirties and high twenties, but colder than that is miserable.

@jakedduck1 I would recommend Virginia to you. The seasons occur, but are milder than up north and the heat is not as bad as in the south. If I was to move elsewhere, that's where I would head. If my daughter had stayed there after college it would have been a strong possibility.

I Love having all 4 seasons!! I am so restless so it’s great that I never really get a chance to be bored with any particular season.

@parus @retiredteacher I completely understand the reasoning behind no more prescription pads. Can you even imagine the number of pads that were stolen by addicts to access their "legal" drugs? If I need to carry a prescription my physicians will print one out and sign it. Also much better than the scribbled, illegible mess and subsequent medication errors generated by the prescriptions scribbled on those handy pads.

@2011panc Our doctors won't do anything but fax---not even printed out prescriptions, but they are good about refilling in a timely manner. We were on vacation several years ago and decided to stay longer and would be out of one med. We were able to call the doctor's office and she called a drug store in the vacation town and we were able to get one med that was necessary for every day. I didn't think she would do it, but she did. I was grateful. These days I imagine it might not be that easy because, as you said, there is so much abuse of all sorts of drugs. Sad state of affairs.

@contentandwell it is currently 8° here at 7:00 p.m. :p ick.
Tim's therapy is of to a good start. She has him practicing some simple math, writing out steps for tasks and practicing sorting a deck of cards while watching tv or talking to me to practice divided attention while doing a task. He really send to like it. I'm praying it helps.
Blessings,
JoDee
