Gratitude Discussion Group

Posted by Debbra Williams, Alumna Mentor @debbraw, Nov 24, 2018

Hi everyone! Just before Thanksgiving @michellegraffradford posted a blog called Gratitude Changes Everything. She suggested three techniques to help incorporate gratitude into our daily lives:

  • Start the Day with Gratitude (before getting up think of three people you are grateful for)

  • Maintain a Gratitude Journal to record times when you are grateful

  • Count Blessings – not sheep! (Review the day and remember moments of gratitude)

Her blogpost was so inspiring that a lot of us decided we wanted to form a Gratitude Group to keep the attitude of gratitude going. The blogpost area is not an ideal space for a big discussion group so I am moving the discussion over here to the “Just Want to Talk” Group. Let’s use this space to share and discuss our Gratitude Journey. I’m going to suggest that we each try to take a minute from the day and post here what has made us feel thankful today. It can be as small as a stranger’s smile on the bus or as large as fulfilling a major life dream – or anywhere in between. We can also discuss how we are doing with the three techniques. Sometimes it is easier to form new habits with support from others.

Michelle's full blogpost is at the link below. You may want to review it or print it out to help get started!

I look forward to hearing from others in the Gratitude Group and to having others join us here! Thanks to those who already shared great stories. If you haven't yet, what gratitude will you share today?!

“Vegetable soup” sounds good, it’s the “home made” I can’t deal with.

Today I'm grateful for hot soup. I'm making homemade cream of mushroom soup with a broccoli slaw salad and rolls. I got so cold reading about those low temperatures you are all having - and even ours here in FL dropped into the low 40's - so I decided soup was on the menu.

@lioness - your vegetable soup inspired me!
@parus and @contentandwell - I'm especially feeling for your low temps.
@parus - Bundle up when you see your pain specialist tomorrow. Good luck - and let us know how things go.

Hope you all stay warm and safe.

So obviously a pot of veggie soup is no big deal for you. For me it would be a major accomplishment and not an accomplishment I care to achieve. Enjoy!! I had cheesecake for lunch.

Oops, I mean pickled lol
Must have been thinking of candied yams. My doctor would finish me off, and she wouldn’t hesitate to do it if she found out I had cheesecake

Hey everybody, we have a new person who is new to Connect as well. She's @bvgrammy and she wants to join the Gratitude Group. I've given her the link and she's not over here yet, but when she comes over, I hope you will all help me welcome her. I'm going to be gone most of the day tomorrow taking my husband to the doctor in Jacksonville. I think our potential new member is ready for a group like ours... so if I'm not around, please start without me in making her feel comfortable. Maybe she heard about the delicious food being discussed over here?! LOL. Seriously, I love this group. Each one of you makes this group richer and more interesting. So having one more will just expand our interestingness... (is that a word?).
