Depression and Anxiety at an older age

Posted by pjss48 @pjss48, Sep 14, 2018

I am a 70 year old woman who has had depression and anxiety for a long time. It got worse 3 years ago when my husband lost one of his jobs. I panicked and my anxiety increased. I was afraid to do things. like driving. I have arthritis pretty bad and foot problems. I'm a Christian and my faith has helped me. My husband was a pastor and our church closed 3 months ago. We've had continual stress. Sometimes I don't know what to do with myself during the day. I've gotten help from several doctors, including a psychiatrist. I also have IBS. I am better. I'm taking trazadone duloxetine, remeron and xanax. Also on osteo biflex, probiotic , bentyl and celebrex. I want to get on Sam e but it may interact with one of my meds. Thanks for listening.

Hello Everyone, I am individual who is 70 year old and suffer from both OCD and Depression. I have had both of them off and on for many years. I was wondering if anyone has tried either electro shock therapy, TMS, and cannabis oil and what your results were. Look forward toward your response

@herbnj- A warm welcome to our wonderful group. I have PTSD and depression, and anxiety, among many other things! lol. I am 72 and have been using CBD oil for over a year. It helps me. It calms me and soothes me and it doesn't get you high. I am also on Zoloft and Wellbutrin.
I would think that electro shock and TMS would be your last resort.
Are you seeing a counselor or psychologist? Are you on any other meds for this?
Have you spoken to your doctor that you feel something has changed and need some additional help?

@lioness @parus; @herbnj - I often have wondered the same thing - I have felt so great-now what? Even if we are not aware of them everything has a trigger, what sets things off..Something said that we only half heard, a picture of an old friend, or feeling neglected by everyone. These are warning signs and a red flag should go up.

That was my reaction too. It’s supposed to reduce Cortisol and lower blood pressure.
But who knows anything is worth a try.

@merpreb Hi thanks for writing to me. As you said I am new to this bulletin board. I am 70 and I have had OCD and depression off and on since I was about 12 years of age. I have been to many Psychopharmacologists as well as talk therapy. I have been on several medications such as Prozac, Zoloft, Celexia and Cymbolta. Unfortunately some of the medications above worked for the time being anywhere from a few months to even several years. I currently am on Zoloft and Cymbolta and I see a therapist on a somewhat of a weekly basis. I am semi retired, I ended up going back to work due to being very bored being fully retired. I am wondering if a doctor or medical professional gave you the go ahead for cannabis oil. Have you suffered with your ailments for a long time? I am trying to do CBT with the therapist. Hope to hear from you soon. take care. Herb

I'm new too. I have depression and anxiety problems, as wrl as serious arthritis in my knees back and bone spur in my shoulder. It's frustrating to know what medicine is the best. Today I'm feeling like I don't have much reason for living, not knowing what to do. I haven't done much. I'm trying to work up to taking a shower.

@herbnj- Good morning. I'm so glad that you force yourself out of bed and take care of what needs to be taken care of. Yahoo!
Actually my therapist, who was recommended to me by my PCP, recommended that I try pot or CBD. She actually sold me some! lol
My PCP did give me the go ahead, after I had already tried some.
I like CBD much better than HTC because it doesn't make me high. It calms me down and helps mellow me out so that I am not a bitch. It makes me feel much better. I think that it's worth discussing with your doctor and trying it.

@merpreb Okay. CBD did help. Out of league. Still duking it out with myself today. I know in this state I dare go nowhere. Took all of holiday decorations down which are few. Struggling with not once again destroying everything there is about me as I am not worth anything-oh yes, depression has hit with PTSD. Not thinking straight and know it. Only support I have is here and reading comments does help. In that, “I am a waste of skin” place. Been here before. I know it and recognize it. Does not make it any less uncomfortable. Can not blow fuse as someone would call cops and surely don’t want that!!! I am trapped in a life I don’t want. Stopping.
