Need TKR and had positive allergy testing / Bone Cement and Metals
Does anyone have any suggestions on any medical replacement joints on the market my orthopedic surgeon might not know about? I was scheduled for total knee replacement and my surgeon MADE me take a blood allergy test from Orthopedic Analysis.. Test showed "reactive" to Bone Cement monomer so surgeon referred me to a colleague who could do a cement-less knee. Upon his review of my results however, he also stated I was "mildly-reactive" to Chromium, Molybdenum, Nickel, Vanadium, Zirconium and Iron. (Screenshot of levels attached). I'm also 'mildly reactive' to Cobalt Alloy and Titanium Alloy Particles.
My surgeon said, "I recommend you exhaust all other options, because I can do the cement-less knee, but if the metal allergy bothers you, there will be nothing I can do." Very hard to hear as I'm only 55 and active. In the meantime, I've gotten Genicular nerve burn in both knees which helped reduce pain level from 7 to a 4, but I'm trying to find out if there are any other surgical implant options that might work for someone with Bone cement and certain Metal allergies? Also, wondering will this even affect me as I can wear any type of cheap costume jewelry without ever having a reaction? If I have no issue with metal touching my skin, will it bother me if I have it in my joint for TKR?
Thanks in advance for ANY advice!

I believe there are ceramic joints and ceramic coated joints. Yet don't see ortho surgeon till next month. At visit before test he said they are assorted joints and there would be one free of allergies if needed. Still..............after allergy test results am not rushing into anything and realize now it will be best to wait before I try anything at least until I can't get off the ground at all. For me, unlike others, walking straight or even on a slope is pain free. My issue is stairs (especially going down) and worst of all for a gardening I have a hard time getting off the ground, it's painful and must have something to push up on to get up.Those movements are very painful and my balance isn't great, I feel like I have no knee control.
I do have a handy strong plastic garden knelling bench, you can either sit on it or flip over to kneel and then I push up on the solid legs. I carry it around when working. A nuisance, but so worth. If anyone is interested I know of a good model I got on Amazon. I am thinking of getting another, which I would keep clean to use in the house when floor work is needed.
@gardeningjunkie It does sound like there are options when and if you decide to have the TKR. For now though if you are not in a lot of pain it sounds manageable. Keep exercising it as much as you can, I saw tremendous improvement when I did. Also, it really is best to not wait until you are in unbearable pain, rehab is more difficult then. I was in horrible pain before I finally chose to have my first TKR. I definitely wish I had not waited for so long.
Your garden kneeling bench sounds interesting so I checked Amazon. Is it the one made by TomCare? I do not garden, I really do not like being outside where there are bugs (shudder) but I could use for it in the house too.

Oh my, looking up the exact name of the benches I bought, I have 2, I was shocked at the price increase!
Mine are the"Step 2 Kneeler Seat in Vertex Green" and it is now $107.00 on Amazon.
I bought my first one in 2016 as my previous garden bench by another company failed, yet I had that one for 10 years. I felt the Step 2 Kneeler was sturdier. I abuse this bench throwing here and there to the next spot or down a hill. I like it so much I bought another for a vacation house, yet I am not sure I would pay $107.00. In my mind remember I didn't pay more than $70.00. !
I treat my clothing in the Midwest for biting insects and both my properties have scorpions, but it's worth it to me to get outside.
Good to know your TKR is helping you.
I am sorry but I gave you the wrong name of my bench. The Step 2 Garden Kneeler looks similar, but 2 tone and it is not what I bought and have. It doesn't have the greatest reviews as many say it doesn't support a heavy person, but the price, around $30.00 is great and available at many sources on line.
The " Premium Quality Garden Kneeler Bench", it is a solid green color and is the one I bought with the new price tag of $107 on Amazon. Yikes!
Still for indoor use and since I am not a heavy person I may consider buy the $30.00 Step 2 for inside use. I won't be tossing this around.
@gardeningjunkie scorpions? Where do you live? I’ll make sure I never go there.
JK
Arizona at Lake Mohave- there we have the lake scorpions who live near the water and the Giant Hairy on drier land. What surprised me about Table Rock Lake in MO , near Branson MO is that we have more yes more lake scorpions in MO I imagine because they have more food.
@gardeningjunkie When you said scorpions, I immediately thought Arizona. I am surprised that there are scorpions in MO though. My niece lives in St. Louis, I wonder if they have seen scorpions. They’ve been there a couple of years.

@ contentandwell I was I'm Joplin Mo didn't see any of course I wasn't looking either I'm surprised 😂
Are you close to water?
Even if you daughter lives on the Mississippi River, St. Louis is much higher north in MO then we are and a full zone colder and probably the winters are too cold for scorpions. Branson is on the Arkansas border and our weather is more moderate. Houses on the lake must be sprayed for scorpions, as they love getting inside not content to live their lives in the yard.
