Hello @jcmoffatt, Welcome to Connect. I'm sorry you are having to fight for long term disability. There is another discussion on Connect that you may want to read through here:

Groups > Bones, Joints & Muscles > I received 2 hip replacements and then developed cobalt & chromium.

I'm tagging our moderator @kanaazpereira to see if we should move your post to the discussion above so that you have more visibility. I also found a link that I think may be helpful for you:

National Health Institutes - High blood metal ion levels in 19 of 22 patients with metal-on-metal hinge knee replacements

@jcmoffatt have you talked to your doctors about what can be done to help you?

Hello John. Thank you very much for getting back to me so quickly. I’m quite in despair. My physician had referred me to my rheumatologist who could not find a reason for my severe foot pain and joint pain. I was then referred to my endocrinologist who did an ultrasound on my thyroid gland. She found what she called a “dinasaur egg” on one of my parathyroid glands. She had a resident with her and she said to him it was a parathyroid adenoma. She told me once it was removed I would feel much better. However, when she sent a report back to my GP, she said it was a “possible” adenoma. She then sent me for a Sestamibi scan on Aug. 21st but the report has not come back yet. My doctor then sent my blood to be tested for heavy metal toxicity; results came back late last week and I have a high Chromium level at 21.5 nmol/L which he believes is due to the knee replacement which has been placed on the recall list. I had the knee replaced in 2013. It is a Zimmer Biotec NuGen. I was never informed by anyone it had been recalled. I have had a very low quality of life since the replacement due to swelling and pain, and now, a clunking noise. My Orthopedic Surgeon has since retired. My physician is referring me to see another surgeon. Also, due to my symptoms, I have been referred to a neurologist. It takes 3-4 months to get an appointment. My insurance company ignored the letter that my doctor wrote on Aug. 16/18 that I was TOTALLY DISABLED and UNABLE TO DO ANY TYPE OF JOB AT THIS TIME. They want “proof”. I understand that insurance companies are in the business to make money, but if they don’t give me LTD I’m going to lose my condo. My husband left our family in 2002 and I worked hard as a single mother to finally buy my own home. This is causing me sleepless nights and I now have depression and severe anxiety. Sorry to write such a long reply but I feel the need to talk to anyone who will listen.

@jcmoffatt One thing I know for sure. You need a good attorney. Don't worry about the cost. The insurance company will pay the cost of your legal fees. Call Medicare and see what you need to do. If you do not get an attorney, you won't get a D____D thing. When I went through my crap, I mentioned to the insurance company I had contacted an attorney. I had my first check in about ten days. But you won't get a nickel without a good attorney. Especially now.

Thank you so much for your advice. I am trying to find a lawyer that does free consultations as we speak. I did mention to the supervisor at the ins. co. that it was time for legal action and she said, “Whatever. Do what you want.” How do these people sleep at night?

@jcmoffatt If possible, I would get a complete copy of all of your medical records from the hospital and doctors. This will give you some proof of what you are going through and something for a lawyer to use if needed.

Yes John. Thank you so much. I’m in the process of gathering everything I can. It’s so tiring. My GP is great and is helping me anyway he can.
