@sfskater1958, Hello and welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. Thank you for posting about your hearing test. @sirgalahad is correct in response to the test itself. At Mayo ENT, patients are required to have a baseline hearing test by a licensed Audiologist prior to seeing an Otologist. Are you seeing a physician after your hearing test?

Hello: I made the connection to the hearing loss group because my wife does not hear all that well. Just recently I got her to accept the idea that I would get her a hearing aid for Christmas 2019. I am very proactive about health care and I have taken family to Mayo with amazing results. So I need to educate myself about hearing loss and treatment. You mentioned Audiologist and Otologist. Is the Otologist an MD? My wife's situation is she had an ear infection which the MD forty years ago said to keep cotton in your ear until the infection is gone. Wrong treatment she learned later after having hearing loss. So my question is does one see the Audiologist first and then see the Otologist if appropriate? Does one attempt to see the Otologist first? I am thinking at the very least a person needs to go to a hearing loss clinic that has both the Audiologist and the Otologist. We live near Indianapolis Indiana. Do you know or does Mayo have a recommendation for a clinic in the area? Your help would be appreciated.
