I'm suppose to see a audiologist at Mayo clinic in Rochester i'm stone deaf but they want a hearing test. Does anyone know how good these audiologist are? have you been to one? are your feelings took in to consideration? i had my left operated on 40 years ago totally remade on inside i know nothing can be done i feel it's useless to test. can any one give me answers and a direction on what to expect with these audiologist at mayo in rochester?

the function of the audiologist is to send sound thru blocking one ear andmeasuring your response , and reaction,.they usually do it 2 ways via the ear canal and behind the ear sirring on the bony bit behind the ear over the drum . the hearing in front assess eardrum response and tympanic bones behind the ear isasses middle ear health

@sfskater1958, Hello and welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. Thank you for posting about your hearing test. @sirgalahad is correct in response to the test itself. At Mayo ENT, patients are required to have a baseline hearing test by a licensed Audiologist prior to seeing an Otologist. Are you seeing a physician after your hearing test?

sorries no logic then cochlear implant surgeries where they attache wires directly into the semi circular canal or to the auditory nerve and it sits behind your ear

no inplants not a option it is what it is and i'm ok with it i have kept my ear in great shape since surgery 40 years ago because i'm very picky whop goes inside that ear that was my only concern with the audiologist i'm seeing i'm sure she never saw a ear like mine most ear doctors haven't most audiologist haven't i had some who wouldn't touch it. because never saw one like it after being built due to cholesatoma beinmg took out i had a great doctor do the surgery

I am facing cholestoma or dehisince of the semi circular canal so I know I will loose myhearing in my left ear

my cholestoma was so bad they took all my mastiod, made me a eardrum it had ate mine away it was close to being through thin layer skin and in to the brain which would of meant i die but i had great doctors, i can live without hearing i never good hearing anyway
