Back Surgery
Has anyone had lower back discs fused? I am facing this soon and am trying everything I can to not do this. Powerful shots have stopped working. I've heard horror stories and am scared to death to do this. Anyone out there have luck and success with this surgery?

Grandma's. A Dr is giving shots. That is all he does. He is an anetheoisiogist. I hope they last at least two months. Especially my neck. I wonder what life is like without pain.
Thanks to @gailb and @lioness. To answer a few questions from Gail, here is what I know:
No physical injury traumatized my back (that I am aware of):
1) Spondylolisthesis L4-S1,
2) Degenerative disc disease L3-L4 and L4-S1, hypertrophy, narrow fromiam, Lateral recess.
Over the years, I have had the rhizotomys and shots from pain doctors. Worked for awhile. Then graduated to powerful steroid injections only given by my neurosurgeon. Worked for a short time, but last time they hardly worked at all. I can only get these powerful shots twice a year. I am really afraid to have my chiropractor mess with it too much. I know my doctor said no twisting or turning type movements from chiropractor. I have 2 opinions and they are basically the same. First neurosurgeon top in his field but no nonsense. Tried pain docs. He finally said surgery would be the only thing to relieve. Went to another top neurosurgeon (recommendation from a friend) and she is currently who I am with. She too says I am facing surgery. I live on a limited income so not sure about the chiropractor ART as I imagine Medicare and supplemental plan will not pay for...but that said, I have not looked into it yet. PT helps for a short while but pain does not go away....ever! My sciatic nerves have become more inflamed, with my right side being the worse side. The pain has progressed in a year so I am at my wits end! Will try water aerobics.
I try to stay active as much as possible but am somewhat limited as I had a knee replacement 7 months ago and that is still giving me problems with my IT band...hence, cannot stand, sit or walk for too long. That's it in a nutshell!
@oregongirl be active tell them I do when I see chiropractor or pain Dr
@ Oregongirl Im like you I don't let other people tell me what to do but on the other hand I pick my friends I've weeded out people that are negative for one Im sorry this is a bad day for you ,for me on those days I put meditation muscle on and try to clear my mind thats a tough one haha
Lioness. That God for you. I knew I would find someone on here that I could talk to. I feel better. Yesterday I was having cramps in leg I gave my shot in. Today I slipped out to pramacy and he told me I have to give shot in my belly now. Wow. Oh well only once a week. I must be careful with this drug as it destroys white blood cells which fight off my potential Miloma. Blood work essential. Do you have a fun hobby. I paint and I had better get to it as I tire easily and I have at least 4 paintings I want to leave my kids.
@kitkat100 As we age our backs throughout our lives endure alot ,once we hurt are back as you know it will never be the same Theres a good website you can look at. http://Www.nicch.nih.com through my experience as a retired nurse I tend to help myself with what I can before I have any back surgery .water aerobic are great and less severe on our joints, Yoga, back exercises to name a few I fractured my back in 2005 ,refused surgery but for some it works Im glad this is your decision to make Im just saying what works for me.Are you on any anti-inflammatory meds? I use a ginger-tumeric tea ,taste good and relieves my inflamation

I guess it is for the pain. In my neck. One week later my spine will also be injected. Actually my Dr assured me they do not touch the spine.
