I have had diverticulosis for over 10 years most likely due to Polycystic Kidney Disease. The first few years I was having 3 or 4 diverticulitis attacks a year and my doctor prescribed Cipro. I’m sure these attacks were due in part, to a stressful job I had at the time. Once I moved to another job, the attacks stopped. Two years ago I moved to Florida and was prescribed Cipro for a sinus infection. I wound up with an Achilles Tendon tear. Then, this past February, I had another diverticulitis attack and the doctor couldn’t prescribe Cipro because of my tendon issue. The antibiotics he prescribed were very powerful and made me sicker than the cause. I wound up having another attack about 6 weeks later and again, my gastro doctor tried giving me a different antibiotic but again I was so sick from the side effects. At that point, I stopped taking the antibiotics and I read up on natural ways to kill bacteria and came upon Oregano Oil and Black Seed Oil both of which are considered the most powerful natural antibiotics. I started taking both and within 2 or 3 days, I started feeling better. Now, at the first sign of a possible attack, I start taking oregano and black seed oils. If I am going on a trip, I make sure to pack them In my bag.

5 ReactionsOregano oil is very strong and usually needs to be diluted. May I ask in what form you take it, for example in a capsule? And how much of a dose at a time? I am asking for my own future use. Thank you.

1 Reaction@jlizzard Could you please share the dosage of your capsule? It appears from looking on the internet that the dosage can start as low as a 250 mg capsule and can go up from there. I tend to approach a new supplement with caution so I'd probably start low.
How did you start?
350 mg per gelcap. I usually take 1 gelcap 2 or 3 times a day when I am having an attack. Then reduce to 2 times, then 1 time a day as Instart to feel better. Then I stop taking oregano until needed again.

2 ReactionsWhat your friend went through is my worse nightmare. I'm struggling with weather to have surgery now or after another attack. I'm complicated with only having 1 kidney and lots of abdominal surgery so potential adhesions.. I was hospitalized a few months back and I don't want to go through that again. ...

1 ReactionI had diverticulitis for 3-4 years and took quite a few rounds of Cipro. My doctor retired and my new gastroenterologist felt it was imperative to have a sigmoidectomy. I had a kidney transplant 14 years prior to the diverticulitis. I had the sigmoidectomy with a laporoscope and had no problem and have had no problems since. Good luck!
