Anyone take Lyrica for fibromyalgia and pain?

Posted by mmak @mmak, Jul 19, 2018

I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia a few weeks back after a long journey of pain and uncertainty for 29 years. It looks like I also suffer from social anxiety disorder(this I just see from the symptoms I have, not yet diagnosed). Now my Doctor has prescribed Lyrica, I have been reading up on its reviews and most of them are very scary, has anyone used it before or are using it, please advise on it.

You sound like a candidate for Genesight testing. Information at info@assurexhealth.com. It's a gene test that tells you what drugs will work for you. Depression, anxiety drugs, stimulants, ie Wellbutrin etal. Also what pain drugs will work based on your genes. You ask them for a list of docs close to you who preform this service and go to one who does, they take a cheek swab and in about 2 weeks you have your results back. It alerts you to drug interactions you could have as well as what drugs in 3 or 4 classes will work for you based on how you metabolize them. It's new and it's nothing short of a miracle for folks who need meds like Cymbalta and Wellbutrin. Quit guessing because that's all you and your doc are doing and find out what will work for you. That website is info@assurexhealth.com. get there number and call them and ask them to email you a list of docs near you. Doctors can register for free and all it takes for them is a fifteen minute phone call. If your doc doesn't do it see one who does. Get your info and take it back to the doctor you have and like. When they see the info, they will come around. Good luck, do it!!!

@wsh66, I see that you have posted the same message about pharmacogenetics (drug-gene testing) several times. Have you recently undergone genetic testing and discovered useful information regarding the medications you take?

I have been taking Lyrica 75mg twice per day for 3 months for chronic pain in my thigh, groin and hip.I can only walk on crutches and can't sit but have to lay down. I take loads of pills for my blood (warfarin due to Aortic valve replacement + clopiwin due to 5 strokes) for anxiety (urbanol) for depression (cillift) etc. I am terrified of what Lyrica can do to me and tried to reduce the dosage by not taking my evening dose. 2 hours later I was screaming with pain. How can I get off this please? I have been to 5 different doctors - in the beginning they say they will fix me and in the end they say - stay on Lyrica. I am in so much pain but they can't up my dose cos of kidneys and I don't want them too. I am allergic to so many things from aspirin, penicillin, ibuprofen, codeine etc so there is very little they can give me. BUT I can't stand the pain! Any suggestions please???

Looks like no comments for awhile. I have MCTD and part of it is horrid hip/back pain. Mine is piriformis syndrome and PT has helped immensely. Was prescribed Lyrica but that kind of med livens up other nerves.

It seems there is an assumption being made that natural products don't have any side effects and won't harm you. One example, many people find having bees sting them over their joints is very helpful with some types of arthritis and prefer this treatment because it is a quote on quote natural treatment. However some folks given one or two bee stings will go into anaphylactic shock and require immediate treatment to save their lives. Natural treatments are chemicals of one kind or another

You are so right. And remember, morphine is a natural product, refined from poppies. Pot products may be natural, but most are highly processed. They are not inspected like medicines are. You have no guarantee that what they say is in them is actually what you are getting. Also, they are fed chemical fertilizer by the bucket. When you smoke that bowl, those hard black crumbs left behind are the chemical residue from that fertilizer. However, the high is really nice, enjoy. Of course it should be legal.

I have and so has my son. It's easy cheap and very useful. I found out there was a better drug for me and he learned his present drug was good choice. This is huge. So many people bounce from drug to drug based on what has worked for other patients. The testing guarantees nothing except the fact that your body will be able to metabolize what your taking. If you can't metabolize it, (digest it), it can't help you. The testing also tells you if you will .metabolize so quickly you'll have take larger doses more often or that you will metabolize it so slowly that you should take smaller does less often. Your Doc needs to make that judgement but at least he/she will have the data needed to make that call.

Here is the link. Check it out. It's really easy. My insurance covered it and my sons MA paid for his. I'd have gladly paid the $330.00 maximum fee. This is really big. Mayo has now developed it's own version. Please, try it. No I don't work for either company. I've just watched many friends suffer or have awful experiences with drugs that didn't work for them

My rheumatologist suggested Lyrica; however its effects are close to Gabapentin, which I’ve taken in the past and just restarted. It takes awhile to work (and also helps a bit with anxiety). I also have grappled with social anxiety disorder. I find that a .25 gram of Xanax helps me without knocking me out. I also take a low dose of Zoloft. You might want to compare gabapentin to Lyrica. Stay strong.

I have been taking Lyrica for fibromyalgia for years. I don’t seem to have any side effects, but can’t say whether it actually helps.

lyrica side effects are terrible for me, ending in blurred vision. I also cannot take any antidepressants. I am not depressed although in constant pain for 40 years and cannot handle depression caused by drugs. The fewer drugs I take, the happier I am, I find IMS needles by my physiotherapist help a great deal. best of luck.

I am taking Lyrica equivalent for last 7 years for nerve pain .I reduced dosage to minimum ie Pregablin 75 , one per day.My Suggestion,Take as per Docs suggestion for 3 months.Start Exercise , Yoga , Meditation regularly.Reduce all Sugars drastically.Go for natural remedies and reduce dependence on Lyrica.I wonder whether you can do this in USA? Best is go to India and take Ayurvedic treatment.May Be I can help coordinate.God Bless
