I have been taking Lyrica 75mg twice per day for 3 months for chronic pain in my thigh, groin and hip.I can only walk on crutches and can't sit but have to lay down. I take loads of pills for my blood (warfarin due to Aortic valve replacement + clopiwin due to 5 strokes) for anxiety (urbanol) for depression (cillift) etc. I am terrified of what Lyrica can do to me and tried to reduce the dosage by not taking my evening dose. 2 hours later I was screaming with pain. How can I get off this please? I have been to 5 different doctors - in the beginning they say they will fix me and in the end they say - stay on Lyrica. I am in so much pain but they can't up my dose cos of kidneys and I don't want them too. I am allergic to so many things from aspirin, penicillin, ibuprofen, codeine etc so there is very little they can give me. BUT I can't stand the pain! Any suggestions please???

Personally I think Lyrica is a horrible drug but that’s only my opinion and that of a few others.
I filed a complaint with FDA because of muscle side effects. My arm was paralyzed for over an hour.
I’m curious if your taking it for pain and it’s not helping why are your doctors insistent you continue it.
If your Kidneys are impaired I would certainly take as few medications as possible. Lyrica is an Anti-seizure medication and needs to be stopped slowly but if you don’t have a seizure disorder maybe you can stop quicker or all at once but check with your doctor before and how to quit.
Good luck!!!

hi @michellerog1. i really hope you start feeling better soon and really sorry for your pain. have you tried hemp seed oil? i havent tried this myself but from the reviews i have read that this really helps for the pain. it is a bit expensive though.

i have been diagnosed with PTS in Jan this year & have also been prescribed to take Lyrica. but after reading the side effects and user reviews i have decided not to take this pill. i use alot of herbal ointments & willing to try the hempseed oil soon.

I'm sorry you are in such great pain. Fibro makes my legs hurt terribly. Frankly, I'd be wheelchair bound without Lyrica and Oxycodone. The Lyrica helps so much with the muscle and nerve pain.
You say that taking Lyrica has helped with your pain but you are afraid of what it will do. Can you tell me what specifically you are fearful of? Did you have a bad experience with Lyrica or is it the possibility of what could occur from others experience? I imagine having allergic reactions to so many things must be troubling.
I had a bad experience on another drug and became unnerved. I questioned everything I put in my mouth. I convinced myself that I was having a reaction to a drug I had taken for years. It got so bad that just swallowing it sent me into a panic. Long story short-- I spoke with a counselor who helped me get to the root of the problem.

@michellerog1 , I am so sorry that you are in so much pain from Fibromyalgia. I was diagnosed in 1990, and I managed to work until about three years ago. I couldn't bear to work any longer. I was hobbling down the halls and holding on to desks and tables to get from one place to another. My doctor wouldn't give me anything for pain other than Cymbalta and Ibuprohen, which did not work. I finally have pain relief with Lyrica. I will be careful, however, and try not to get dependent on a higher dosage than what I have now. I'd rather not have to take anything at all. Wouldn't we all?

@jakedduck1 , I certainly can see your side of the questions concerning the use of Lyrica. I read where the use of this drug prevents new brain circuitry from forming, as a side effect of relief from pain. That does bother me. I am 66 years old, but am an avid lifelong learner. I don't want anything to prevent my brain from functioning propetly! But I have a quandary. If I do not have pain relief with this wretched condition, I have no real quality of life. I have family members who kind of like having me around. And I love them to bits! So, I take the lowest dosage possible on much of my nedication. I am in pain right now. But I would rather hurt and have the option of having pain relief than not to have it at all. Does that make any sense?

You sound like a candidate for Genesight testing. Information at info@assurexhealth.com. It's a gene test that tells you what drugs will work for you. Depression, anxiety drugs, stimulants, ie Wellbutrin etal. Also what pain drugs will work based on your genes. You ask them for a list of docs close to you who preform this service and go to one who does, they take a cheek swab and in about 2 weeks you have your results back. It alerts you to drug interactions you could have as well as what drugs in 3 or 4 classes will work for you based on how you metabolize them. It's new and it's nothing short of a miracle for folks who need meds like Cymbalta and Wellbutrin. Quit guessing because that's all you and your doc are doing and find out what will work for you. That website is info@assurexhealth.com. get there number and call them and ask them to email you a list of docs near you. Doctors can register for free and all it takes for them is a fifteen minute phone call. If your doc doesn't do it see one who does. Get your info and take it back to the doctor you have and like. When they see the info, they will come around. Good luck, do it!!!

Looks like no comments for awhile. I have MCTD and part of it is horrid hip/back pain. Mine is piriformis syndrome and PT has helped immensely. Was prescribed Lyrica but that kind of med livens up other nerves.
