Side effects with omeprazole/Prilosec use
i am an 18-year user of daily OTC Prilosec. It does a perfect job of controlling my GERD but I am constantly battling side effects of nutritional deficiencies in iron, B-12, magnesium, etc. For example, my hair is extremely thin and loss of energy is a constant problem. I am looking for specific help in knowing which supplements to take for this and in what doses and formats and on what schedule. All the nutritionists I've found locally are not well-versed in Prilosec use. Is there a medical provider out there who specializes in this? And would they be willing to work with me long distance?

@stash as @riflemanz64 mentioned, there are low-acid coffees. I had to drink them due to Barrett’s Esophagus which is now in remission. Dark roast coffees all have less acid than other coffees because the acid burns off in the longer roasting time.
I presume you are you not using very vinegary salad dressing either. I never knew that almond is alkaline. I was drinking a lot of that until I realized I needed more protein for my osteoporosis. Now I use regular low-fat milk in my oatmeal in the morning. I actually like almond milk in it more though.

JK, that’s awesome that your Barrett’s is in remission just like mine. The low acid diet does work! Keep up the good work!
Would it be that instant Decafe like Nescafe would have no acid at all
No, it has a high acid content.
Hi just ordered some decaf healthwise i have drank decaf for years. My diet i changed back last may i also drink unsweetened almond milk. This heartburn has been very stubborn.
I drink probably 10 bottles of water a day. I stop eating 3-4 hrs before bedtime. I cut out all fried fatty foods. I don't eat out. I eat a lot of chicken breast, boiled potatoes or baked, steamed broccoli, Brussels sprouts, spinach. Breakfast is cheerios with unsweetened almond milk. I eat no spicey foods.I only use 3 tablespoons of healthwise coffee in my bunn drip coffee maker. That's all you need.
@riflemanz64 I really cannot take credit for doing much. I drink coffee, I do prefer dark roast so that’s generally what I drink, and I eat chocolate. The biggest things I gave up were citrus and carbonated beverages. I do eat an occasional clementine though.
Is alcohol bad for Barrett’s? I had to give up wine after a liver transplant but I generally only drank one glass with dinner. Strangely, my diabetes is also in remission!
JK
Soda and alcohol are very bad for Barretts. My wife has been eating my low acid diet and she has diabetes and her last A1C wa 5.9
@lacy2 and others about water.. I have gastroparesis and often have diarrhea..I have a difficult time drinking a lot of water. A biochemist friend suggested I drink more Pedialyte or the generic Drug store Electrolyte Solution as often diarrhea is caused by poor hydration .. I also take a probiotic most days.. but the Hydration of my body seems so much better and easier now than when I was relying on tap water. (I live in a city with very good water according to Dept. of health standards. we even have a new water treatment plant...)
Ahhh, @riflemanz64 Perhaps those are things that have contributed to my low A1c. It's interesting that it is so low (often under 5) because as my prior PCP put down on my exam sheet, I was non-compliant! I may not have been compliant in his eyes, but something was working.
