@jameck Jane, do you have a cough?
I got that awful flu and double pneumonia two Januarys ago - and also got the MAC infection diagnosis at the end of January 2017, too. They told me I had strain A flu, it was awful.
@windwalker my cough has lessened. Weird but I hardly cough at all now.
@jameck Hang in there and take lots of deep breaths. I was finally diagnosed in 2015 and like you, I have periods of sickness and along with that, fear. When I was so sick, coughing blood, etc., I would NEVER have believed I would ever again experience improvement and enjoy physical activity and a nearly normal life as I am right now. For me, prayer, water, nebulizer, daily inhaled steroid and antibiotic, and exercise are the keys. Get to a doctor that treats Bx and NTM. Prayers for us all.
@jameck Good morning Jane. After re-reading this post of yours; I feel like I didn't respond enough to it. Are you still feeling the flu-like symptoms? Ifound that ibuprophen helped me a great deal. It is an anti-inflammatory, so it is good to help keep it down in our lungs. If you have aches, perhaps put a heating pad on those areas. In another post you had mentioned that you are allergic to many things. Are you actually allergic or just hyper-sensitive? I was hyper-sensitive to just about everyhing for years until I was treated at the Mayo in 2013. I was a real pain in the butt. I couldn't stand scents of any kind, could not be around any kind of smoke or automobile fumes, many foods messed me up, and temperatures would effect my breathing. Do you experience anything like that? How are you feeling today?
@windwalker Terri...good suggestions for comfort measures to @jameck. I would only add that when taking any type of NSAID (non steroidal ant iinflammant drug) such as Advil or motrin -which contain Ibuprofen etc- to be cautious. First one might be allergic to the whole category! I am...ended up in ER after taking one Celebrex for a neck ache.
All Nsaids can be very irritating to stomach and must be taken with food. Also they can destroy kidney function. The list might go on....so be cautious and judicious when taking NSAIDS.
I am only able to take tyelenol (acetaminophen)….which is hard on liver....I do not drink alcohol and try to minimize tyelenol use. tdrell terri
@tdrell Good advice Terri. Popping any NSAIDS like candy can be a threat to liver and kidneys. I usually don't use any, but here lately I have. But I do it sparingly. For example, for the last three days, I have taken two ibuprophen a day. I will likely not need them much longer.
@windwalker terri...do you always have some food in your tummy before the NSAID?@tdrell
@windwalker I am not taking anything right now. Just suffering through it.
