Hi @glr702, you'll notice that I moved your message to this existing discussion about weaning off metoprolol. I did this to connect you with others talking about side effects and managing them. You mentioned that you tapered off the drug and have now been off it for 6 days. That is a lot of remaining side effects. Have you talked to your cardiologist about the persistent adverse effects?

Thank you for replying. Those are the symptoms I had while on the medication. Just wanted to list them in case it can help someone. Right now I still have some palpitations, some anxiety, some hand tremors, it seems like the tachycardia is getting better (at least today), some dizziness and weakness and some chest tightness. I feel much better than when I was on the medication, that’s for sure, so hopefully I will keep getting better. Just wanted to know if anyone had any input on how long it usually takes for the remaining side effects to go away.

If I may add a few points here. The significance of doses may depend on the mass of the patient, as well as interactions with other medications in the sense that the other medications may caused increased or decreased levels of the desired medication. Of course other factors may come into play.

For migraine prophylaxis, I've taken Inderal LA 240 mg once per day. I discontinued it without side effects when another solution was found for the migraines (They were strictly visual symptoms, no pain).

Years of taking Acebutolol (a Beta Blocker with weak ISA effects) at 200mg three times a day, I recently transitioned to less than 100 mg Metroprolol Tartrate (Divided Doses) in a hospital with no side effects, other than 100 mg being to low, after being discharged, I was put on 200 mg Metroprolol Succinate in the morning, and 100 mg Metroprolol Succinate in the evening.

I've been on Atenolol as well in the past, that was replaced by the aforementioned Acebutolol.

I'm confident that people experience side effects while discontinuing Beta Blockers, but not all people. That's the point I wanted to emphasize. In addition, no one should discontinue without their doctor's advice, and sudden Beta Blocker discontinuation can aggravate certain heart conditions, that's why tapering is advised. Yet the lower the dose, generally, the shorter the tapering period would be.

it may take tow weeks for you to feel normal after you stopped taking this meds.
