I am new to connect but will try to be active - i live in Thailand and was treated for clinical depression with Zoloft for over 2 years. My psychiatrist insisted this was the best treatment. Well by sheer luck I met a neurologist who listen to me while I did not think Zoloft was for me. He helped me gradually get off and substituted it with Ativan ( only to take as needed ) it changed MY LIFE COMPLETLY - I know Ativan is not suggested for long term treatment but his view was that my problem could maybe be narrowed down to " fear of anxiety attacks" and I have a much better life now. There are many weeks with zero Ativan - but I carry a 0.5 low dose all the time and when I feel symptoms coming I sit down take the little pill and in 30 min or so I keep on what I was about to do. I a not a doctor but a Mayo clinic trained doctor in Thailand helped me get a much better life.

@mbabkk Welcome to Connect. Thank you for sharing your story. My Mom used to take Ativan for panic attacks too. I remember it helping her as well. I'm glad you were able to find a Mayo Clinic trained Dr. Thailand too.
Quick story to add. Thialand was my grandfathers favorite place to travel too. He would go yearly to get acupuncture. Back in the Sixties it wasn't available here in the states.

Thank you for your kind comments and also the story of grandpa - it so sweet
