Alternatives for pain management

Posted by grandmaR @grandmar, Mar 31, 2018

Hello!
I was wondering if anyone tried cryo therapy or medical marijuana for pain management. If you did, how did they/it work?
Thanks
Ronnie (GRANDMAr)

@grandmar I haven't tried cryotherapy or medical marijuana. What I found worked for me was accupuncture and controlled breathing. When my pain gets unbearable or a wave/spasm of pain comes over me,I focus on an object and take deep slow breaths. You may want to check out a post in Just Want toTalk. Hi, @grandmar -- sounds like you are in a lot of pain, and I'm sorry to hear that.

We definitely have some members who have tried some alternatives for pain management -- cryotherapy, medical marijuana or other remedies. I'd like to invite some of them to come talk about how they worked, like @jimhd @cdcc @paladin121 @rmeddings @leh09 @allisonsnow @lauren123 @marield65 @virtuous69 @ayankeeinnm @jenapower. @sandytoes14 may also have some thoughts for you.

@grandmar -- have you tried any alternative pain therapies? If so, how did they go for you?

I am curious if any one has tried biofeedback or Reiki? Here is a great link to the Pain Treatment Center Program

2000 was my first trip to Mayo Clinic Rochester and also where I learned Reiki as a fit of pain control for my broken sternum. I was in a car accident and had many crushed bones. The pain was unbearable but I learned may alternative approaches to deal with my pain. Still today I have chronic pain and muscle waisting amongst many other painful ailments but still take no pain medications to treat my pain. Here is a very condensed explanation of Reiki. One of my most effective techniques is the “Pain Drain” once learned it really becomes natural and extremely effective.

Has anyone tried Reiki? Was it successful for you?

Here is a good book I have as well. It is a good read. https://marketplace.mayoclinic.com/

I have definitely learned the pain control is not a “One size fit all”. I have tried a few other alternatives as well. Acupuncture, acupressure, chiropractic treatments, Biofeedback, physical therapy, Aqua therapy, tens unit, electrical stem, nerve blocks, cortisone shots, biofreeze, herbal oils and all had pros and cons.

I never have but my friend got involved with it. I am a Christian and will not go near it. I won't say anymore.

I am sorry you feel that way. I too am a Christian and not really sure what that has to do with it. It does not interfere with my treatments. I have been doing it for 18 years. But I am in no way trying to convince you. Just curious if anyone else has found relief with the technique.
Thank you for your concern.

I did reiki about a month ago for the first time. I suffer with anciety and panic attacks. I came out feeling very calm but hours later it was back. I would do it again as they suggested to me once every two to three weeks to do another session and for $65 it was well worth it. My Reiki girl was so compassionate and caring
