Bladder and Urethral Pain
All,
I am posting this on behalf of my significant other. She is 27 that is chronically ill with a bladder and Urethral pain issue. She has had the pain for 6 years and has gone to every doctor you can imagine but has had no success. Some of her side effects aside from pain include frequent urination, weak urine stream, OCD, depression, nausea, anxiety, and frequent mood swings. She gets UTI'S frequently and recently has treated a severe entereococcus and pseudomnas infection in which required IV antibiotics for treatment. We thought that might have been the answer but unfortunately provided no relief. She has a degree in biology and chemistry and was once aspiring to be a PA/doctor but hasn't been able to get better. Doctor's have not been willing to help and she is starting to lose faith that she will not get better. I am at a loss as I do not have an answer for her. She mentioned that she tried to get into the Mayo clinics undiagnosed disease program but was subsequently denied. I don't know what else to do and hope someone has some guidance on where she can go or what she can do to get better.

Hi - here is the link to the US News and World Report Best Hospitals 2017-18. From there you most likely can search for best doctors. Hope this helps.

Thank you for the reply! I have constantly pushed going outside of CT for help but she thinks it will be a waste of time. We went to Loyola last year which ended up being a huge waste of time and a killer for her out look. She's continues to go to Yale but no one wants to go above and beyond to treat her.
Don't want to go out of bounds, but keep on pushing. I see that you're in CT and as you know there are top hospitals in NYC. My suggestion would be to search for urology specialists associated with these hospitals and start making calls. Your wife may be so disheartened that she's giving up.
Thanks for the support and advice. I will continue to seek help. She's been to a few doctor's in NY and haven't had help but we need to keep making phone calls. Just have to find a way to keep her motivated.
As a specialist once told me after having been sick with an undiagnosed illness for 1-1/2 yrs, "don't give up; don't let them try and say you're a blankety-blank hypochondriac woman! Keep searching until you get an answer!" I took his advice and went out of the boys' club and landed with a doc associated with a top hospital and he diagnosed and treated me. Funny thing is, he wasn't the one I was supposed to see! I was given the wrong info by the secty. That doc became my internist for the past 26 years and retired a couple of weeks ago. I'm still devastated! He was so smart and a great diagnostician. Good luck.
Thanks for the post. Doctors in this area aren't interested in having patients that they have to "diagnose". We had one doctor tell us that he didn't want any patients that he had to spend any amount of time trying to diagnose. most often people should be prepared to do their own research/diagnosing. You're lucky to have had such a special internist.
