I know magnesium is good for sleeping as is valerian root. You can ask the doctor if it is ok to try them. I really like CALM which is a magnesium product.
@hogan_g1937, I am sorry that you are learning that waiting for an organ transplant is not like it is portrayed in movies or on TV. All of our journeys are different, yet alike. It was especially hard on my husband to see that I was so miserable. He would tell me how helpless he felt. And I did not like making him feel like that.
Before transplant, I could not sleep, or even lie, propped up in bed, for more that 2 hours. My suggestions might be: back rubs, lots of blankets/pillows to prop and support, pacing the floor, throw the clock away (because it seems to stop), try to find something positive look forward to in the morning.

@jodeej, You are so-o-o right to always check with the doctor:before taking anything 🙂

I do feel hopeless and wish I could take some of his pain just to give him some relief. I too am sick with breast cancer, however I have not been sick from the chemo and radiation, thank God just a little pain in my feet from the chemo.
@hogan_g1937 Have you tried meditation or deep breathing for the pain and sleep? Yoga is wonderful for that! 🙂
No he has not. Something I will definitely suggest to him. He does get plenty of exercise bike riding and walking. he was in excruciating pain last night and this morning. I felt bad because I had to leave him to come to work.
@jodeej When you say yoga, must it be done just before going to bed or does it help to make you more relaxed overall so you can get to sleep more easily? I have a lot of trouble getting to sleep, my mind picks that time to swirl around. If I take a nap during the day I go right to sleep but not at night at all.

Thanks JoDee, he is handling his pain much better than me. He is up all during the night due to the pain. Any suggestions to help him sleep?
