They are beautiful and yes spring is finally here thank you for sending me the picture it helps to see the flowers since I can't go out and see them here yet but am making progress hope to get my stomach fixed this week see the trauma surgeons for it on Tuesday and I have my gallbladder tube removed on Tuesday morning before my appointment for the trauma surgeons then I see my transplant team in the afternoon on Tuesday for the all clear on my heart and everything is going to go good as soon as my stomach is fixed then I can do a little bit more in the line of physical therapy and hopefully my orthopedic surgeon here in Eau Claire will clear my right leg to standing I stand now with the easy step which is a mechanical device that let's me put some pressure on my left foot to stand and the CNA's can be trained on using it instead of the hoyer lift that hurts under my knees will keep you all posted on what I find out on tuesday again thank you for the picture of the flowers Rosemary they really are beautiful

@rosemarya These are the true heirloom Columbines-very hardy and hard to find. They do self sow readily.

@glinda Thank you for the update. the temperature will finally reach beyond my age tomorrow and it looks as though Spring has arrived here too. Sounds like they are keeping you busy!!

@rosemarya Beautiful! I planted columbines once and they did not come back the next year. I really do have a brown thumb.

@parus, I found these flowers while on a Sunday afternoon hike with my husband. I needed (another) rest and and found a perfect rock seat near a rocky ledge with these beauties in view. So, the answer is yes, they self sow, and survive and thrive in a natural forest setting on the border of Bluegrass region and the Appalachian region of Kentucky.

@glinda, Glinda, It is good to hear that you are forging ahead! You have come a long way so far. I know that you will be able to go outside and enjoying your own "personal springtime" at some approaching time.

@contentandwell, The columbines that I have in my garden are larger that these beautiful red ones that are deep in the forested area. Mine are a pale yellow/pinkish color. Since they come up annually, I let them stay. (I think we have already discussed my garden - or lack of - skills!)

@rosemarya I lived in KY and TN for many years. How I miss those places!! I am now stuck in the arm pit of IN. I like those columbines-although can no longer sow, am endeavoring to try and bloom.

@rosemarya You make Kentucky sound like a very appealing place, very beautiful. I believe my parents went there for part of their honeymoon trip, I can remember my mother mentioning the "blue grass" of Kentucky. If we ever do a drive south maybe we will take a route that will bring us through Kentucky.
