Turmeric a help for lowering blood sugars and other benefits?

Posted by susanhs @susanhs, Feb 13, 2018

I read recently that Turmeric would reduce inflammation in the body, but also lower and keep more stable blood sugars. What is your reaction? I took it for 3 months and did not notice any change, so I am not currently taking capsules (400-500 2X daily). Does it help ward off infections of other kinds in the body?

Hi, @susanhs and @dvranichs -- a few other Mayo Clinic Connect members who've talked a bit about turmeric and its possibilities for lowering blood sugars or other types of inflammation are: @johnbishop, @gman007, @parus, @speedy, @bonniecanby, @hopeful33250, @lisa54, @vonbaron36, @jlfisher56, @lioness, @rmoen and @retiredteacher. Hoping they may have some thoughts for you on your experience with taking it for stabilizing blood sugars and your questions about warding off infection with it.

Are you diabetic, @susanhs? If so, do you also use other strategies (e.g., medications, exercise, diet) for helping manage your disease?

I just noticed your post, I have tried turmeric and it has a minimal effect for me but does give me gut burning.

I have noticed a difference with the inflammation, but only in it's raw form. I continue to take the supplements as a back up but juicing it and adding a little to a green smoothie helps me quite a bit
