~ Feeling a little lighter and having fun ~

Posted by Barb @amberpep, Jan 30, 2018

Well, I think my family really thinks I've gone off the deep end. Maybe they're right, but I'm sure enjoying it. Saturday I pick up Kellar (against my family's advice!), I've had a purple and blue stripe right in the front of my hair for the passed 18 months, and I finally got myself something I always wanted. Way back when I was in 6th or 7th grade, all the girls were wearing "saddle shoes." I desperately wanted a pair .... after a lot of begging, my alcoholic parents finally relented. So, one night, the 3 of us went to a shoestore and I got those saddle shoes ..... BUT the "saddle part" was not black or brown .... instead it was RED PLAID and they had THICK RED FOAM SOLES, obviously making me stand out like a sore thumb. Well, the other day, I ordered a pair of real saddle shoes from Zappos, and they came today. I love them! So, here I am, a 73 year old woman, with purple and blue stripes in her hair, wearing saddle shoes and walking a dog who is probably very long with short legs! I may look like I'm nuts, but I'm sure having fun.

The lighter side for me is playing with my art which is now play when I am able to so. Just takes longer. I am the comic relief person if cornered in a tense situation which I do my best to avoid. I am moving slower these days. I keep telling myself to "lighten up" on myself. I am known to break out singing an old song to help cheer myself up. Yeah, we all need the "lighter side" at times. Yeah, Yeah, Yeah.
Going to share some of what helps me lighten up and get lost in the world of creativity to escape all types of pain. I must be thinking about sunshine on these wintry gray days. Hope it helps someone else as this is what art is for-I think.

We must think in similar ways. When everyone was "home" at our house, the 3 kids , for some crazy reason, now and then I would burst into an operatic song, flinging my arms and spinning around. The kids cracked up. Now they're all adults, and when I do it now, they go "OH NO" and run!

I'm so proud of these responses, and of you abby! To be yourself is a very brave thing to do, and the fact that you are having fun while you do it makes it even better! It's important to be able to be yourself.
