Tramadol Helps with Exhaustion
Besides the constant pain, the exhaustion of trying to carry around 2 dead, numb legs (I call logs) exhausts me until I can do nothing. My neurologist prescribed a minimal dose of Tramadol for pain, but it is wonderfully effective at giving me some ENERGY so I can just do simple basic tasks. Anyone else either have this extreme fatigue or a Tramadol experience?

@pfbacon Oh my gosh ,your kidding thats awful whats our government doing to us ,its going to send people to the black market
Yes, people who have chronic physical pain will have to turn to drug dealers, or, they will reach the limit of the pain they can stand and they will commit suicide. I wonder how many deaths from 'suicide' and 'depression' were actually physical pain. Humans can only stand so much. That's why the military is still using torture to get information from enemies -- it works -- pain breaks people. We need to write to our elected representatives. Whatever happened to the Grey Panthers? They used to be activists for seniors. Peggy
@ gailb - or anyone else who might help me with some answers. Pain mgt dr sent me to a neurosurgeon - who wants to do laminectomy, rods, pins...3 1/2 hr surgery. I am 80 years old, do have quite a bit of pain, but do I want such a big surgery at this age? I do think yoga/stretching helps the pain (and Tramadol, occasionally Percocet) - that's my question to you Gail - are you still going for the ART? Not sure I could find a chiro close by that does that, but would continue with stretching. I'm afraid of becoming paralyzed (which is what I'm hearing from the drs). I do use the Tens unit, as @lioness does, and take Tramadol along with gabapentin and requip to help me get through the evenings, which seems to be my worst time - can't sit and relax as my one leg goes crazy jumping.around! Some nights are better than others...
@barbarn Can you refresh my memory of what the back issues are? I would stay on the meds your taking and doing what you are doing . If you can get in a pool those aerobic exercises are easier on the joints After my back fracture this is the P.T. for my ,in the water. For your legs there are several things you can try taking magnesium, calcium and potassium is important for the body , pickle juice when a cramp starts or before you go to bed, drinking a cup of ginger-turmeric tea after supper, Topricin cream its called MyPainAway, these are only a few suggestions .
I find that Tramadol does the same for me. It gives me lots of energy in addition to helping with the pain.
@barbarn One thing I forgot to tell you I have upper back issues pain and what I use is a long handle foam like for the dishes in sink and put my cream on it then I can reach my upper back .
@ lioness - low back issues - stenosis, nerve impingement L3,4 and 5 - plus, hard fall that left bruised right thigh- hip to knee nearly 2 years ago, possibly that could have bruised/damaged the ilio-tibial band? After that fall, I also had shingles on that right thigh, so am not sure I'm not dealing with some post-herpetic neuralgia also.
We have an outdoor hot spring in which I have swum laps 40 years, but have not been there for over a year...you are correct - I should get back to swimming, or at least walking in that warm water. Used Topricin, but that seemed to almost make it worse. I do take magnesium, but not calcium or potassium supplements. And need to figure out a way to get some turmeric down!!! Thanks for your interest, and for all the good suggestions - and I think I'll have a ginger beer with vodka this evening! Wishing you were here to share!!
@barbarn Sorry for all your problems I like Ginger beer have to get some payday I,ll be thinking of you and how cool that is .What about that pickle juice ???? I think what helps the most is to just keep moving how ever. Id love to go in that hot spring where do you live? I,ll be right over lol The tea is the only way I can take the turmeric I tried the capsules but it bothers my touchy stomach You can find it at Trader Joe,s ginger -turmeric . its not a strong turmeric so I can drink it. have a good Sunday
@pfbacon peggy oh my gosh. I can't believe they would do that. I take tramadol because l can only take 2 pain meds due to my liver. And l just got out the hospital last week because l had to have my appendix taken out and my doctor gave me a prescription for tramadol and l filled my prescription at Walgreens. Where l live we have the highest opioid abuse but l asked several of my doctors if tramadol was an opioid and the answer was no. It's really not any worst than tylenol or any other otc pain meds And l guess if l couldn't have it my insurance wouldn't pay for it but l guess it's better than morphine. Have you asked your doctor to write a note to your insurance company or maybe you can try mail order. I would see what your doctor can do.
@lioness - is the tea in teabags? Long way to Trader Joes (like 170 miles) but maybe I can find it in a grocery store here. also - what kind of pickle juice? (sweet or dill?)
